Ahead of WoW Midnight’s official launch, the prepatch event, Twilight Ascension will be available for players to farm catch-up gear on, pick up mounts, cosmetics, gain exp, or just hang out with other players. Prepatch events are nothing new, as we’ve been seeing them as far back as the original Vanilla days. This one will be available for several months, so there’s no rush to grind it out right away if you don’t want to.
You also don’t need to be very high level to take part. As long as you’re at least level 10 in WoW, you can take part in the Midnight prepatch event Twilight Ascension. The event kicks off on January 27, 2026, and will run until Midnight’s launch.
How long is the Twilight Ascension prepatch event for WoW Midnight?
You’ve got plenty of time to take part in the WoW Midnight Twilight Ascension event, as it starts on January 27, 2026 and runs through March 2, 2026 (the official Midnight release date). The event will start in either Stormwind or Orgrimmar, depending on your faction. You will need to complete a small quest chain that starts with The Cult Within, regardless of what city you go to.
It will involve you meeting with either Magister Umbric or Grand Master Rommath, clearing out some suspicious individuals, and ultimately, finding your way to the Twilight Highlands. You can head to the Cataclysm portals in your home city to get to the Twilight Highlands easily. After you’re done with the quests, what is there to do in this area?
Gameplay loop for the Midnight Twilight Ascension prepatch event in WoW
As you take part in Twilight’s Ascension ahead of WoW Midnight, you’re going to be farming Twilight’s Blade Insignias. These come from completing Rare Elite Events (1 token per Rare), from Twilight Highlands World Quests (10 tokens per quest), and from the Weekly Quests Disrupt the Call / Twilight’s Dawn (40 tokens per week per Warband).

Like any other World Quests in WoW, you’ll see the Twilight’s Ascension World Quests on your map, including the Rare Elite Events. The regular World Quests will spawn every 12 hours, but the Rares will follow a rotation in the area. The Twilight’s Blade will start an event every 10 minutes, where you’ll see a zone-wide announcement:
“The Twlight’s Blade have begun summoning more forces. Defeat their ritual leaders!”
The Rare will then spawn, but is immune to damage. You’ll need to complete a trio of steps before you can defeat the rare spawned in that particular event:
- Stop the Ritual: Kill Twilight’s Blade forces and disrupt the camp.
- Slay the Ritualists: There are three Ritualist mobs shielding the Rare. Defeat them.
- Twilight’s Champion: Defeat the rare, now that it’s vulnerable!
These Rares will be on a set, fixed rotation, which should make unlocking the achievement Two Minutes to Midnight much easier. You’ll need to defeat all of the Rares in the zone to unlock it, and its reward. The only exception to the Minutes to Midnight schedule is the Voice of the Eclipse.
It will come as a result of an event at the top of every hour. You’ll get another zone-wide announcement:
“An Ephemeral Void has manifested in the Highland Forest!”
By destroying the Disparate Ephemera in the camps will ultimately summon the Voice of the Eclipse for players to defeat. It’s required for the Two Minutes to Midnight achievement (not to be confused with the Ultraxion achievement Minutes to Midnight), but isn’t in the normal schedule. Here is the list of enemies you need to beat, in the order that they appear.
- Redeye the Skullchewer
- T’aavihan the Unbound
- Ray of Putrescence
- Ix the Bloodfallen
- Commander Ix’vaarha
- Sharfadi, Bulwark of the Night
- Ez’Haadosh the Liminality
- Berg the Spellfist
- Coria, Herald of Twilight
- Void Zealout Devinda
- Asira Dawnslayer
- Archbishop Benedictus
- Nedrand the Eyegorger
- Executioner Lynthelma
- Gustavan, Herald of the End
- Voidclaw Hexathor
- Mirrorvise
- Sallgrum the Observer
Achievements, Rewards, and catch-up gear available in Twilight Ascension event
There are plenty of things to farm while you’re taking part in the WoW Midnight Twilight Ascension event. Simply completing the quest chain will net you the Twilight’s Blade Tabard, and the incredible “%, Definitely Not a Cultist” title. Here are the achievements you can pick up:
- Two Minutes to Midnight: Defeat each of the bosses being summoned by the Twilight’s Blade in the Twilight Highlands during the Midnight pre-launch events. Reward: Light-Forged Mechsuit (mount)
- Crunching for Cultists: Win the Twilight’s Blade Strategem game in the Twilight Ascension Basecamp.
In addition, in the Twilight Ascension basecamp, there are some rewards you can pick up for your Insignias:
- Arsenal: Weathered Twilight’s Hammer Armaments (40): Cosmetic weapon set from the Twilight’s Blade.
- Ensemble: Well-Worn Twilight Cultist’s Attire (40): Twilight Trappings Classic outfit (only cooler)
- Silvermoon Wooden Chair (50): Sin’dorei chair housing decor.
- Enchanted Blood Elven Candelabra (50): Small Sin’dorei candelabra housing decor.
- Sin’dorei Winged Chaise (75): Medium Sin’dorei Divan housing decor
- Retrained Skyrazor (100): Teal and pink Skyrazor dynamic mount.
- Scruff (30): Baby Hyena Battle pet.
- Emerald Sporbit (30): Green sporbit battle pet.
- Rhay’Dahr (30): Baby beholder battle pet.
- Twilight’s Blade Top Secret Strategy Training Guide (30): Toy that summons the Twilight Stratagem game.
- Midnight catch-up gear (40): From Armor Kalinovan, 121 Champion 1/8 (Upgradeable to 144) for level 80 characters.
While the gear has a chance to drop from Rares during the Twilight Ascension event in WoW, you can also purchase it directly from Armorer Kallinovan. Each piece costs 40 Twilight’s Blade Insignia’s, and is equal to Manaforge Omega Normal difficulty gear. That should give you an idea if it’s something you need or not. If nothing else, it’s fantastic to gear up alts ahead of the expansion.
