Will Armie Hammer be in the Call Me By Your Name sequel?

Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino is still interested in making a sequel to his Academy Award-winning film. Whether Armie Hammer will be part of it remains unclear.

Overall, Guadagnino has an interest in making sequels to his entire filmography. “I would love to make a second and third and fourth chapter of all my movies…Why? Because I truly love the actors I work with, so I want to repeat the joy of doing what we did together.” Sure, bring on the Suspiria Cinematic Universe!

As far as Call Me By Your Name goes, he said, “There is no hypothesis, so there is no movie. It’s a wish and a desire, and I have not made up my mind about what would be the story.” When asked if Armie Hammer’s character, Oliver, could be included. “Yeah, of course.” But the director didn’t explicitly say if that meant Armie Hammer would reprise the role. He could, of course, always be recast, although this may only bring more attention to Armie Hammer’s allegations which include abuse and desires for cannibalism.

Luca Guadagnino has been planning a sequel as far back as 2017, the year Call Me By Your Name came out. It was originally intended to come out in 2020. A later development said that the movie would take place in the late 1980s (the first was set in the summer of 1983). A sequel to the source novel was titled Find Me.

Luca Guadagnino’s latest, the cannibal romance Bones and All, comes out this month, but the director says there is no link between its subject matter and Armie Hammer.

What do you think? If Oliver returns for a Call Me By Your Name sequel, should Armie Hammer be cast in the role? Or has he lost that privilege?
