What to Eat for a Detox: Your Guide to Feeling Your Absolute Cleanest, Clearest, & Best | The Skinny Confidential

We are all about natural ways to feel your best. Detoxing is something we’ve talked about on the blog at length. We’ve done detox body wraps, detox drinks, detox masks, and more. Detoxing is a practice that can lead to a healthier mind and body, and Lauryn feels strongly that it’s the foundation of wellness. That’s why she created the body sculptor and dry brush for you.

But, did you know nutrition plays an important role in detoxing the body? It can be difficult to detox the body without paying attention to what you’re eating. That’s why today, we’re going to talk about what to eat on a detox.

Let’s just get one thing straight, though. When we say “detox,” we’re not talking about completely starving yourself, surviving solely on Pink Detox Drinks, or swearing off of your favorite sweet treat forever.

Instead, think of detoxing more as a reset. It’s like a sexy little upgrade for your insides that also makes you feel good on the outside. Your skin glows, your bloat vanishes, and your energy is at a higher vibration. if you’re into that, then this post is for you.

Here’s a curated guide on what to eat for a detox.

What to Eat for a Detox

Before we dive into the best foods for detoxing your body, let’s dig deep into what a detox actually is. This can help you set goals for your detox, which will give you a better indication of which foods to eat.

    What Is Detox?

Detoxing is a process of removing harmful toxins from your body. Your body is already undergoing detoxification processes 24/7 (thanks liver, kidneys, and our absolute favorite, the lymphatic system). Still, there’s a lot that you can do to support your body’s detoxification system with food that fuels your body, flushes toxins, and reduces inflammation. We also want to be sure we’re not adding to the toxins our bodies already have to process by eating heavily processed foods.

We’re not trying to deprive ourselves with detox diets; we’re trying to elevate our nourishment. And isn’t that what micromanaging your routine for the best life is all about?

What Happens When You Detox Your Body?

As you detox, you may experience an array of symptoms that indicate your body is successfully eliminating toxins. These symptoms can include:

Digestive issues: bloating, gas, nausea, etc.

    Muscle aches

Skin changes such as rashes, skin tone changes, increased sweating, etc.

    Mood swings/irritability

    Headaches

    Fatigue

Despite how those short-term symptoms make it sound, detox is actually so good for your body, especially in the long term. After you detox, here are some health benefits you may experience:

    Increased energy

    Better cognitive function

    Sleep quality improvements

    Reduced joint pain

    Less bloating

    Vibrant skin

    Potential weight loss

    Protection from free radicals

    Immune system support

    Balanced blood sugar

What To Eat To Detox Your Body

    Green Tea with Lemon

Green tea contains antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that support detoxification. It’s rich in catechins, which can help protect against oxidative damage from free radicals. If you’re not familiar with free radicals, they are unstable molecules that our body secretes in response to environmental stressors like toxins. Free radicals cause cell damage, which can lead to conditions like cancer.

The lemon is also packed full of vitamins and minerals that will give your body the nutrients it needs to feel its best.

Lauryn loves Pique tea.Brew a batch, keep it in your fridge and add Beauty Salt for extra benefits.

    Leafy Greens

Leafy greens like spinach and kale are good sources of both vitamins and fiber. Fiber is needed to support our digestive system and flush out toxins. You may already know that the Medical Medium loves spinach.

    Cruciferous Veggies

Cruciferous vegetables contain fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and polyphenols. Polyphenols are a group of natural compounds found in plants that are known for being particularly beneficial for human health. They also act as antioxidants, preventing free radical damage.

    Avocado

Avocado provides both fiber and Vitamin K. Vitamin K is known for supporting digestion and liver function. In fact, Vitamin K is even used to help protect against non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

    Berries

Berries have many different types of vitamins and minerals in them that support overall health. They also have antioxidants to help protect against oxidative stress.

    Healthy Fats

You want to make sure that your diet contains some healthy fats, such as nuts, seeds, avocado, and coconut oil. These healthy fats provide you with essential fatty acids that support your overall health.

    Beans & Legumes

Beans and legumes are super rich in fiber, which can help improve digestion. Different fibers do different things in your body. Some help move stool along in the large intestine, while other fibers help you stay full for longer. This can also help you lose weight.

Detoxing doesn’t have to be a chore.

You can still have absolutely delicious meals while eating foods that support your body’s detoxification processes.

But, it can be hard to know where to start. Don’t sweat it, though! We’ve got a few recipes here to help you get started on your detoxing journey.
