BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Sept. 22, 2021)—–Six SEC programs are ranked in the top-25 of the men’s and women’s national rankings released Tuesday. A pair of SEC women’s programs are ranked in the top-25: Arkansas at No. 4 and Alabama at No. 5. Ole Miss is ranked 15th. BYU and NC State are tied atop the poll in the No. 1 spot.
Three SEC men’s teams are ranked in the top-25 this week. Arkansas has the highest ranked SEC men’s squad at No. 6, while Alabama is No. 15 and Ole Miss is No. 20. Northern Arizona from the Big Sky Conference is ranked No. 1.
Week In Review
Five SEC teams competed in the North Alabama Showcase last week with Alabama winning the men’s title and Ole Miss taking home the crown in the women’s race. The Crimson Tide men swept the top-three individual spots for a low score of 25 points. The Ole Miss women won with 20 points and placed five scorers within the top-seven spots.
Three teams – Kentucky, Missouri and Vanderbilt – competed in the Commodore Classic on Friday. In the women’s 5K, the three SEC teams took the top-three spots as Kentucky was first, Vanderbilt was second and Missouri was third. In the men’s 8K, Kentucky and Missouri finished second and third, respectively, while Vanderbilt was fifth.
In other action, the LSU men’s and women’s teams kicked off their 2021 season with wins on Friday morning at the LSU Invitational. The South Carolina women’s team claimed the team and individual titles at the Winthrop Invitational, and in Tallahassee, Fla., the Auburn men finished 10th and the Auburn women placed 11th in the FSU XC Open.
A Look Ahead
Arkansas and Texas A&M are scheduled to compete in races Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week. The Arkansas women will run in the Bill Dellinger Invitational Thursday in Springfield, Ore., while the Razorback men will travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., for the BC Battle in Beantown on Friday. Texas A&M will run in the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday.
