The Best Tinted Moisturizers (Non-Toxic Options That Look & Feel Great)

Finding the perfect tinted moisturizer that looks natural, provides sun protection, and has a non-toxic formula is no easy task. After trying quite a few, I’ve narrowed it down to my top picks for every type of look. All of these are clean (or as close as possible), so you don’t have to worry about questionable ingredients.

I own and love all of these (even more than I’ve included in this post which you can see from the photo below!) and the one I wear daily just depends on my mood and what type of finish I want.

Best “I’m Not Wearing Anything” Look: Olive Rose Tinted Moisturizer

If you want a tinted moisturizer that looks like absolutely nothing is on your skin, Olive Rose Serum Hydroxytyrosol Skin Tint is the one. It evens out my complexion just enough while still letting my skin show through. It’s lightweight, hydrating, and blends in effortlessly. It’s similar to ILIA’s Super Serum Skin Tint (review of the ILIA Skin Tint here), which gives a similar sheer, natural look and contains SPF, but the scent of that one is just unbearable – it smells like dog food. Olive Rose smells amazing (just fresh and natural) and makes my skin look great the day of and over time.

The only con to this one is that it doesn’t have a true SPF. While it includes antioxidants like hydroxytyrosol and oleuropein, which offer some natural protective properties, it doesn’t have ingredients like zinc oxide that provide broad-spectrum sun protection. So you’ll need to layer an SPF underneath this one unfortunately.

Best Glowy Finish with SPF: Supergoop! Glowscreen SPF 40

For a dewy, radiant complexion with sun protection, Supergoop! Glowscreen is a great option. It doubles as a primer and a sunscreen, giving that pearlescent glow without looking glittery. It has hyaluronic acid and niacinamide for added skincare benefits, making it great for dry skin too since it’s so hydrating.

However, I have to mention that Glowscreen contains chemical UV filters like avobenzone, octisalate, and octocrylene, which are controversial. The FDA has stated that more research is needed on these ingredients, so if you’re looking for a strictly non-toxic SPF, this may not be the one for you. That said, if you love a glowy finish, it’s one of the best options out there. I personally use and love this, and since EWG has given it a score of 2, I feel good about recommending it. Best Natural Finish with SPF: Crunchi Sunlight Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30

If you prefer a natural, skin-like finish with a bit more coverage, you’ll love the Crunchi’s Sunlight Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30. It has just the right amount of coverage to blur imperfections while still looking like real skin. The best part? It contains non-nano zinc oxide for broad-spectrum SPF protection without any of the questionable chemical sunscreen ingredients. It also includes skin-loving ingredients like aloe vera and jojoba oil to keep your skin hydrated throughout the day. I reviewed this tinted moisturizer in detail here. Best Budget-Friendly Clean Alternative: DIME Beauty Tinted Glow Wonderscreen SPF 30

DIME Beauty’s Wonderscreen is a more affordable, clean sunscreen if you want an alternative to Crunchi’s Sunlight Tinted Moisturizer. It has SPF 30 with 19% zinc oxide, providing broad-spectrum sun protection without a white cast. The sheer tint blends in easily and gives a nice glow without looking too shiny.

However, I personally found it to be a bit greasier compared to Crunchi, which is why I reach for Crunchi more often. If you have dry skin or love a more dewy finish, DIME might be a great fit for you. Best Viral Pick: EltaMD UV Restore Facial Sunscreen Tinted SPF 40

For those with dry skin who prefer a matte finish without compromising on hydration, EltaMD UV Restore Facial Sunscreen Tinted SPF 40 is an excellent option. I avoided this one for years because I didn’t think it was a clean option, and while it’s not as squeaky clean as some others on the list, it’s a decent option that’s cleaner than most options out there. And once I tried it, I quickly fell in love!

This lightweight formula provides broad-spectrum sun protection with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide while maintaining a shine-free finish. It’s ideal for dry skin types as it contains squalene, which restores your skin’s natural moisture and suppleness! Its great for combination to dry skin.

Final Thoughts

Picking the right tinted moisturizer depends on your skin type and what kind of look you’re going for. If you want something that looks like you’re wearing nothing, Olive Rose is the best. For a glow, Glowscreen works well (as long as you’re okay with chemical SPF). Crunchi’s Sunlight Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 is my top choice for an all-around great tinted moisturizer with SPF that has a natural finish and a clean formula. If you want a budget-friendly alternative, DIME Beauty’s Wonderscreen is a great option, especially if you prefer a dewier look. And for those who love a natural finish but need hydration, EltaMD UV Restore Facial Sunscreen Tinted SPF 40 is the best pick.
