If you’ve seen any pictures or videos of my husband on Instagram, chances are something he’s wearing is from Duck Head. He first found the brand when he was looking for a wardrobe overhaul a few years ago and he’s kept coming back ever since. Now a huge portion of his wardrobe is Duck Head (along with Holderness & Bourne).

Duck Head has been around for over 160 years, which gives a nod to its enduring style and quality. And my husband (who loves all things history) was sold on the brand before even trying anything on—just because of that legacy. Thankfully, the pieces live up to it. They feel timeless and reliable, not trendy or overdone.

Here’s a breakdown of Tommy’s favorites by category, with a few notes on how he wears them (and what he really thinks).

    Tommy’s Favorite Duck Head Clothing

    Polos

These are the polos Tommy reaches for most often—whether he’s dressing for a casual office day or sneaking out to the golf course mid-day. They hold their shape well, aren’t too clingy, and the colors are easy to wear.

    Long Drive Performance Polo

This is probably the lightest, most breathable polo in his closet. It’s a great option for hot days or layering under a pullover when the weather’s unpredictable. Tommy has worn it to the driving range, the office, and out to dinner—and it somehow works for all three.

    • Tommy’s review: This is a staple of my daily “uniform.” Most days, I wear these polos to work and then head over to the golf course. I also sport these bad boys at church, kids’ birthday parties, and weekend activities. Like I said, a staple of my uniform…the right fit and look for my whole life.

    Summerford Performance Jersey Polo

A breathable blend of polyester, lyocell, and spandex, it offers moisture-wicking, odor resistance, and quick-dry comfort, making it perfect for both the golf course and casual Fridays. It’s a solid staple, and the subtle branding keeps it looking clean.

    • Tommy’s review: Super soft and comfortable. On the rare occasion I wear a shirt untucked, this is my go-to option (maybe I should chill out a bit and rock the untucked look more often…haha!). I’ve also worn these shirts to the pool…for whatever strange reason.

    Button-Downs

These shirts strike the right balance between polished and comfortable. Tommy has worn them to church (more church outfit ideas for men and women here), to work, and even to dinner on vacation. They hold up well and don’t wrinkle too easily, which I appreciate when packing.

    Performance Poplin Sport Shirt

The fabric on this shirt is soft and has a slight stretch, which makes it more comfortable than your average button-down. He’s worn it on travel days, to church, and even tucked into golf pants. Tommy has the sport shirt in multiple patterns!

    • Tommy’s review: I mean, Duck Head has been in business for 160 years…with that kind of longevity, I think it goes without saying Duck Head really knows how to make great men’s button-downs. They are perfect in every way: cut, fit, length, fabric, buttons, collar… I wear them ALL THE TIME.

    Shorts

Duck Head shorts are one of the reasons we tried the brand in the first place. They just fit better than most. Not too long, not too slim. And they’ve become Tommy’s go-tos for weekends, travel, and pretty much any warm-weather activity.

    Harbor Performance Short

He started with the 8” shorts but I convinced him to try the 6″ performance shorts since I love a shorter short on guys who are in shape (which he is!). Plus, it feels a little more modern without being short. The fabric is lightweight, dries quickly, and doesn’t wrinkle, so it’s great for travel or outdoor events.

    • Tommy’s review: I exclusively wear Duck Head shorts May – October…literally every day (weather permitting). These shorts are perfect for golf, watching the kids, or hanging around the house. A major plus: you don’t have to iron them, or if you do choose to iron (my preference/OCD) you can get 2-3 wears before they need to be pressed again.

    Gold School Chino Short

These feel a little more traditional, with a heavier cotton fabric. He wears these when he wants something more structured—like for casual dinners or events that call for something a little nicer than athletic shorts.

    • Tommy’s review: As noted above, I exclusively wear Duckhead shorts May – October. These are a heavier cotton fabric perfect for the Spring/Fall or days in the mountains. I particularly like the waits button on these shorts…I don’t know how to describe it, but it is the nicest, most functional, and strudley button I’ve ever seen…no popping these buttons off!

    Solid Sailport Swim Shorts

We tried Duck Head’s swim trunks last summer, and they’re one of the few pairs Tommy actually likes wearing all day. The fabric feels lightweight and quick-drying, and they have a classic fit—not too long or too flashy. He’ll wear them to the pool, dry off, and then throw on a tee or this Windward Performance Hooded T-Shirt and head to lunch without needing to change.

They also have functional pockets and a mesh liner that’s comfortable enough for longer wear (which is not always the case with swim shorts). They’ve definitely become a staple for beach trips and weekends at the pool.

    Pants

If I had to pick the most underrated part of the Duck Head lineup, it might be the pants. Tommy has a few pairs now, and they’ve become his most-worn for days when jeans feel too casual but chinos still need to be comfortable. The fit is clean—not too slim, not too baggy—and they hold up well after multiple wears. He’s worn them to church, to casual meetings, and even on travel days when he wants to look a little more put-together.

    Gold School Chino Pant

This is the pair that started it all. They have a true classic fit but still feel modern enough that they don’t look dated. The fabric has just the right amount of structure and softness—Tommy’s worn these with everything from a polo to a sweater and a button-down layered look. They’re good everyday pants that can go from office to dinner without feeling like “dress pants”.

    Pullovers & Outerwear

Living in the South, the fall is perfect- the air is refreshing but not bitter. Tommy lives in his Duck Head vests all season because they look polished and keep him warm as the days get cooler.

    Fremont Performance Quilted Vest

This vest has been a game-changer for transitional weather. It’s lightweight yet provides ample warmth, making it perfect for layering over a flannel or under a heavier coat. The water-repellent finish and PrimaLoft Black Insulation ensure Tommy stays comfortable, whether he’s out for a morning walk or heading to a casual dinner.

    Waxed Duck Canvas Quilted Vest

Tommy refers to fall as “vest season,” and this is his go-to piece. The Canvas Quilted Vest offers a classic quilted design with a standing collar and hidden snap placket. It’s versatile enough for weekend outings or casual workdays, providing just the right amount of warmth without feeling bulky. This vest would make a great gift for any special man in your life (see my ultimate gift guide for guys in this post).

    Dunmore 1/4 Zip Pullover

For those days when a full jacket feels like too much, the Dunmore Pullover strikes the perfect balance. It’s soft, breathable, and offers a polished look that’s suitable for both the office and weekend gatherings. Tommy often pairs it with chinos for a comfortable yet put-together ensemble.

    Accessories

We haven’t tried a ton of accessories yet, but the ones we have are solid. The styling is simple, the colors are versatile, and they’ve held up well. Here’s what he likes.

    Circle Patch Twill Hat

This is the kind of hat Tommy throws on after work or for a Saturday at the park with the kids. It’s soft and comfortable, and the colors are neutral enough to go with anything.

    Leather Belt

If you need a belt that goes with jeans, dress pants, and everything in between—this is a good one. Subtle branding, solid quality.
