I’ve been ordering and trying a bunch of things over the past few weeks—everything from lightweight cardigans and travel-friendly tops to sneakers and summer sandals. With a certain international trip coming up, I’ve been especially focused on pieces that are versatile enough for the plane, city exploring, and relaxed evenings in the countryside. But I’ve also been shopping ahead for summer here at home. Not everything is a winner, but I’ve found a few gems. Let’s dive in!
As usual, I will provide measurements and fabric content on each item when I can find it, and I’ll share whether I plan to keep it or not. Just remember, even when I decide not to keep something, it doesn’t mean it isn’t worth checking out. I just may not need it, or it may not work for my body type or lifestyle.
Spring Style Finds: Tops, Dresses & Lightweight Layers
SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, a 29 or 30 in jeans and pants, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.
EVEREVE Teddy Washed V Neck Tee in Adobe Rose
at EVEREVE (S) // MOTHER Weekend Flare in Layover (29) // Sam Edelman Waylon Slides in Ivory (8)

DETAILS: Step into the weekend in the comfortable Teddy Washed Tee by EVEREVE, featuring a v-neckline, a cap sleeve, and seam details throughout.
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 23″
- 100% Cotton Knit
- Machine Wash, Wash Cold, Tumble Dry Low
I have this tee in black and liked it so much that I ordered it in this rose color too. I forgot that I had the black in a medium and ordered a small this time—it’s just a touch too snug through the chest. While it’s probably the more flattering fit, I’m afraid it might shrink in the wash. Also, as much as I like the color, I don’t think it’s the most flattering on me.

VERDICT: I returned it and don’t plan to re-order in the medium, but it’s a good tee! I’d recommend sizing up if you’re in between sizes.

EVEREVE Alli Muscle Sweatshirt in Mango
at EVEREVE (S) // MOTHER Weekend Flare (29) // Adidas Handball Spezial (8)

DETAILS: Top off your spring rotation with the Alli Muscle Sweatshirt by EVEREVE. Perfect for everyday wear, this crewneck sweatshirt is finished in soft cotton-blend fabric with a crew neckline, wide ribbed trim, and raglan cap sleeves.
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 23″
- Material: 69% BCI Cotton, 31% Polyester Knit
- Care: Machine Wash,Tumble Dry Low,Use Non-Chlorine Bleach,Iron Low
When I saw this top online, I had a feeling I’d love it—so it was the first thing I grabbed when I stopped into the EVEREVE store a few weeks ago. Sadly, it didn’t live up to my expectations. I really like the raglan cap sleeves and the ribbed details at the neckline, sleeves, and split hem, but the fit feels a little long and dumpy. (And this is the size small.) I do really like the mango color, though!

Here’s how it looks in white, in the size medium. I knew the medium wouldn’t be a better fit, but since I had it in the dressing room, I figured I’d try it on and snap a picture.

VERDICT: I didn’t buy either. It’s okay, but I have plenty of tops, so I didn’t want to settle for one that’s “just okay.”

EVEREVE Kendall Tank in Red
at EVEREVE (S) // MOTHER Weekend Flare (29) // Adidas Handball Spezial (8)

DETAILS: Update your sweater collection with the Kendall Tank by EVEREVE, featuring a unique zig-zag knit design, a crew neckline, and rib trim details.
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 22″
- Material: 100% Cotton Knit
- Care: Machine Wash, Wash Cold, Dry Flat
This is a really cute sweater, but it’s pretty snug in the size small—and I didn’t go back out to grab the medium because I don’t love how it’s cut in so far around the armholes. That said, it’s a really pretty color, and I love the textured knit!

VERDICT: I didn’t buy this one either, but it might be worth a try if you like the style.

Faherty Sunwashed Slub Muscle Tank
at EVEREVE (S) // MOTHER Insider (29) // Marc Fisher Glynne slides (8)

DETAILS: This Faherty tank will be your go-to summer staple, wear it on repeat with cutoffs, jeans, and linen pants.
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 22″
- Material: 100% Organic Cotton Slub Knit
- Care: Machine Wash, Tumble Dry
Another day, another muscle tee! There are so many to choose from right now, and I’m really drawn to this style—if you couldn’t tell, haha! Faherty always makes a quality piece, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The slub fabric has a nice texture, and I appreciate that it’s 100% cotton. That said, I have a lot of similar tops already, and I didn’t feel like I needed this one.

VERDICT: I decided to return it, but it’s a great option if you’re looking for a well-made muscle tee.

Faherty Stretch Terry Short in Egret
at EVEREVE (6) // Faherty muscle tank (S)

DETAILS: These summer-ready Faherty shorts feature a high-rise waist, front patch pockets, and back welt pockets. These are the easy shorts you’ll be loving and living in.
- Front Rise: 11 3/4″
- Inseam Length: 4 1/2″
- 83% Regenerative Cotton, 16% Recycled Polyester, 1% Spandex Stretch Terry
- Care: Machine Wash, Wash Cold, Tumble Dry Low
These shorts are interesting! At first, with my shirt untucked, I thought I liked them… but then I tucked it in, and oh my word—that rise is aggressive! I just don’t think I can get past that, even if I never tuck into them.

VERDICT: I decided not to keep these, even though they’re quite flattering and comfortable (other than that crazy rise).

J.Crew Cashmere Patch Pocket Cardigan in Black
at J. Crew (S) // MOTHER Weekend Flare in Layover (29) // Vince Oasis Runner in Beige Mesh/Black Leather (8.5)

DETAILS: An impossibly soft layering essential, with vintage-inspired patch pockets, rib trim at the cuffs and a subtly oversized fit that feels effortless.
After getting so much helpful feedback on my England travel capsule, I got it in my head that I might want to swap out my Athleta Pranayama Wrap as the third piece in my travel outfit for next week’s trip—something I’d actually want to wear out and about while in England.
If I bring the Athleta wrap, I’ll probably just use it as loungewear while we’re relaxing at the house in the Cotswolds, but I can’t really see myself styling it with my outfits. A black cashmere cardigan feels like a more versatile option since I could wear it for all three purposes: travel, loungewear, and as part of an outfit.

This is the first one I ordered! I like the shorter length and boxy fit, and it’s very soft. The quality feels excellent. I also like that I can wear it buttoned up like a pullover, and it looks good worn open as a cardigan over my Z Supply Elin Stripe Tank with my Athleta Brooklyn Heights Cargo pants and On Cloud waterproof sneakers. (More on the sneakers later!) This could definitely be a potential travel outfit.

It has a deep V-neck, which I actually like for the pullover look, but not as much when worn open as a cardigan. Still, not a dealbreaker.
VERDICT: Still deciding, but this one is a strong contender.

Naadam Signature Cashmere Boyfriend Cardigan in Black
at Naadam (S) // MOTHER Dazzler Flood (30) // Vince Oasis Runner in Beige Mesh/Black Leather (8.5)

DETAILS: The Cashmere Boyfriend Cardigan is a soft, easygoing knit with a relaxed classic fit and tunic length. It features a deep v neckline, button front, patch pockets, and ribbed details.
- Relaxed Classic Fit
- Long Classic Length
- 100% Mongolian Cashmere
- Machine Wash, dry clean, lay flat to dry
This one is a longer style—more of a classic boyfriend cardigan—also with a V-neck. The cashmere isn’t quite as soft and plush as the J.Crew, but I can overlook that. It’s still cozy, and I like how it looks layered over the matching Naadam cashmere tank.

It fits a bit snug when buttoned, and the longer length throws off the proportions a bit when worn that way, so it doesn’t feel quite as versatile as the J. Crew Patch Pocket Cardigan.

Naadam Signature Boyfriend Cardigan // J. Crew Cashmere Patch Pocket Cardigan
That said, I think I might actually like it better worn open over my Z Supply Elin Stripe Tank with my Athleta Brooklyn Heights Cargo pants and On Cloud waterproof sneakers.

VERDICT: I’m holding onto this one too—still deciding between the two!

Bloomingdale’s Cashmere Hoodie
at Bloomingdale’s (M) // Z Supply tank (M) // Athleta cargo pants (6) // New Balance 327 (8.5)

DETAILS: This must-have cardigan features a drawstring hood with ribbed trim, long sleeves, and a zip-front silhouette that’s easy to layer.
- Fits true to size
- 100% Cashmere
- Handwash or dry clean
I thought a cashmere zip-up hoodie might be a good option. It has a more sporty, fitted look that pairs well with wide-leg cargo pants, and it looks good both zipped and unzipped. But the cashmere feels a bit rough and scratchy, and I wish it were an inch or two shorter. Overall, it just doesn’t excite me.

VERDICT: I sent this one back. I don’t see it layering over other tees and tops as easily as the roomier cardigans.

Naadam Super Fine Cashmere Tank in Black
at Naadam (S) // MOTHER Dazzler Flood (30) // Vince Oasis Runner (8.5)

DETAILS: The Super Fine Cashmere Tank is a luxuriously-lightweight top with a classic fit and length. It features a soft v neckline, trimmed edges, and the ability to instantly elevate any outfit
- 100% Super Fine Cashmere
- Machine Wash, dry clean, lay flat to dry
I ordered this thinking it might work well as a base layer under the black boyfriend cardigan—but also because it’s polished enough to wear on its own if it warms up. The key would be to add some jewelry so it looks intentional.

This is the size small, and it just fits. I like the flattering rounded V-neck and the bra-friendly straps that aren’t too wide. It’s also cut close around the armholes, which is a plus for us short-waisted girls!
VERDICT: I doubt I’ll keep this if I don’t keep the cardigan, so I’m waiting to see how that all plays out.

Naadam Signature Cashmere V-Neck Sweater
at Naadam (S) // Naadam tank (M) // MOTHER Dazzler Flood (30) // Veronica Beard Valentina Sneaker in Coconut/Black (8.5)

DETAILS: The Signature Cashmere Boxy Cardigan is an elevated layer with an oversized fit and long classic length. It features a v neckline, button front, patch pockets, and boxy, modern silhouette.
- 100% Mongolian Cashmere
- Oversized Fit
- Classic Long Length
- Hand wash cold, do not bleach, lay flat to dry, or dry clean
While browsing the Naadam website for cardigan options, I was really drawn to this boxy cashmere style with wide sleeves in the ivory. The black looked just okay, but the contrast buttons on the ivory version add a really nice detail. I also think the lighter neutral feels especially pretty for spring, so I decided to order it—along with the matching ivory tank.

I really like the relaxed fit of this cardigan, along with the wider sleeves and patch pockets—there are a lot of nice details that set it apart from a more basic boyfriend style. Plus, I think it looks just as good buttoned as it does unbuttoned. I’m also trying to overlook the drop shoulder seams, which I always find a little annoying, but it’s not a dealbreaker.

I ordered the matching tank in a medium, figuring the lighter fabric might be more sheer and less forgiving than the black—and I was right. Even with a molded cup T-shirt bra, it might be a bit too see-through for my comfort, but I do really love the color.

Here’s how it would look with the Athleta Brooklyn Heights Cargo Pants if I wanted to wear this set on the plane or use it as loungewear while I’m in England. It’s super cozy and comfortable, but I’m not sure I want to wear ivory cashmere for overnight travel.

VERDICT: Still deciding on this set, as well!

Naadam Lightweight Cashmere V-Neck Sweater in White
at Naadam (M) // MOTHER Dazzler Flood (30) // Vince Oasis Runner (8.5)

DETAILS: The Lightweight Cashmere V-Neck Sweater is an elevated knit with a relaxed classic fit and classic length. It features a wide v neckline with a subtle roll, drop shoulder, and ribbed details.
- Relaxed Classic Fit
- Classic Length
- 100% Lightweight Cashmere
- Hand wash cold, do not bleach, lay flat to dry, iron low, dry clean
I thought another lightweight cashmere pullover in a light neutral that works with my England travel capsule might be a smart addition, and this one was calling my name with its wide rolled V-neck and extra-long ribbed cuffs.

The length is perfect, the weight is just right, and the neckline is super flattering. But I really detest the drop shoulder seam—it looks dated to me and makes my upper arms, shoulders, and chest look broader, which I’m not a fan of.
VERDICT: I’m debating trying another color—maybe a darker one?

Naadam Lightweight Cashmere Striped Short Sleeve Cardigan Black Combo
at Naadam (M) // MOTHER Dazzler Flood (30) // Veronica Beard Valentina (8.5)

DETAILS: The Lightweight Cashmere Striped Short Sleeve Cardigan is a soft, versatile knit with a classic fit and short classic length designed to skim the top of the hip bones. It features a v neckline, button front, ribbed details, and horizontal stripes.
- Classic Fit
- Short Classic Length
- 100% Mongolian Cashmere
- Hand wash cold, do not bleach, lay flat to dry, iron low, dry clean
I had such high hopes for this one! It’s so cute—with the V-neck and the black and natural stripe combo, plus the black trim around the neckline, cuffs, and hem. It fits close to the body without being too tight, and overall, it’s super flattering and cute!
But alas… it’s just a smidge too short for my body—especially with these mid-rise jeans, which are exactly what I’d want to wear it with. I kept pulling and tugging on it, trying to decide if I could get comfortable in it, but it’s just not quite right, and at this price, I need to love it.
VERDICT: Sadly, this has to go back.

Naadam Super Fine Cashmere Short Sleeve Polo
at Naadam (M) // MOTHER Dazzler Flood (29) // Vince Oasis Runner (8.5)

DETAILS: The Super Fine Cashmere Short Sleeve Polo is an elevated knit with a classic fit and short classic length. It features a relaxed point collar, v neckline, ribbed details, and silky-soft feel.
- Classic Fit
- Short Classic Length
- 100% fine gauge cashmere
- Hand wash cold, lay flat to dry, or dry clean
Another short-sleeve cashmere sweater—this time with a trendy polo collar. I don’t know why I keep trying these! I like the idea in theory, but when I actually put them on, they feel too tailored and conservative for my style. Plus, the ivory color is too sheer.
As an aside, I wish the stripe cardigan was this same length! They both say Short Classic Length but they are not the same.

VERDICT: I sent this one back as well.

Athleta Get Away Linen BlendTank
Athleta linen tank (M) // Athleta Brooklyn Heights Cargo pants (6)

DETAILS: Made with our newest, ultra-light jersey–this tank is a breath of fresh air for any wardrobe.
- Semi-fitted, skims easily over the body
- Body length: 21 5/8”
- BREATHABLE: Airflow moves easily through the garment
- 55% Linen/45% TENCEL™ Modal
- Machine wash cold and tumble dry on low.
I ordered this linen tank thinking it could be a good alternative to my striped tank to wear with these cargo pants for travel—and it would also work with leggings for workouts. If I wear black pants and a black sweater (or my grey Pranayama Wrap), it adds a nice pop of color. Plus, it’s so thin, it won’t take up any extra space in my suitcase.

I also like the boxy fit, the 22″ length, and the wide “straps” sleeveless styling. The armholes aren’t too big—it’s just right!
VERDICT: Keeping! This is coming with me to England—or I’ll wear it to travel.

Athleta Essential Slub Tee in Eden
at Athleta (M) // Athleta Brooklyn Heights Cargo Pants (6) // New Balance 327 (8.5)

DETAILS: This breathable and infinitely versatile staple tee plays well with literally everything, everytime.
- Relaxed fit
- Sits at the high hip
- Body length: 22 5/8″
- 100% Supima Cotton
- Machine wash cold and tumble dry on low.
This shirt is another option for travel and also great to have on hand for workouts or super casual days at home. I like the wide V-neck, boxy fit, and 23″ length—and this is such a pretty color. I already have it in white, but I thought it would be nice to have in a color too. Here’s how it looks with a front tuck.

And here it is layered under both black cardigans: the Naadam Boyfriend Cardigan on the left and the J.Crew Patch Pocket Cardigan on the right. I think it works. It’s not exactly high fashion or anything—the fitted tank definitely looks better—but honestly, no one’s going to care. This one’s all about being casual and comfy. It could be nice for my travel days. I just wish the sleeves weren’t so long.

VERDICT: I don’t know that this will come with me to England, but I’m holding onto it to wear with these pants here at home—and maybe with running shorts too.

Caslon Patch Pocket Stripe T-Shirt Dress
at Nordstrom (S) // Paul Green Hadley (8)

DETAILS: Crisp stripes heighten the carefree, casual vibes of a this T-shirt dress fashioned from cotton jersey with a hint of stretch.
- Crewneck
- Short sleeves
- Unlined
- 93% cotton, 7% spandex
- Machine wash, tumble dry
Moving on to some dresses… this one is really cute with a straight T-shirt shape, and I love the stripe design—especially the wider solid panel at the top. It runs really big; this is the small, and it’s plenty roomy, but not in a bad way. It’s very comfortable and easy to wear.
VERDICT: I’m holding onto this one for now.

SPANX® AirEssentials Striped Maxi T-Shirt Dress
at Spanx (M) // Paul Green Hadley (8)

DETAILS: Your favorite light-as-air fabric, in a dress that rivals the comfort of your favorite tee. Designed with high side slits for easy movement, this versatile maxi effortlessly transitions from the street to the beach. In our luxuriously soft AirEssentials fabric that’s breathable and ultra-drapey.
- Full length dress with a relaxed fit
- Inseam: 54″
- High side slits for easy movement
- 47% Tencel™ Modal, 42% Polyester, 11% Elastane.
- Machine Wash Cold, Gentle Cycle. Inside Out. Tumble Dry Low.
I’ve been curious to try this SPANX dress for a while, so I finally ordered it. The fabric is nice and thick—almost like a ponte—which I really like, but the silhouette doesn’t do much for me. I was hoping it would be more flattering, but it feels pretty shapeless on me.
VERDICT: Definitely going back.

rag & bone Miramar Gillian Trompe l’Oeil Faux Denim Cotton Terry Midi Skirt
at Nordstrom and Saks (29) // Faherty muscle tank (S) // Marc Fisher Glynne slides (8)

DETAILS: A masterpiece of deception, this straight-cut midi skirt is an oh-so-comfortable canvas for a photorealistic print of a five-pocket-style denim skirt.
- 34″ length
- Zip fly with button closure
- Front scoop pockets; printed back pockets
- 100% cotton
- Machine wash, dry flat
This skirt is really interesting! It’s made from that rag & bone Miramar fabric that looks like denim but is actually a soft, drapey cotton knit. Some of the seaming and pockets are real, and others are printed on. It’s incredibly comfortable, and I think it’s pretty flattering overall, but the printed rear pockets are quite large, and I struggled with how to style the shirt. It looked dumpy left untucked—even though it’s a short 22″ length—and a full tuck always looks awkward on me because I’m so high-waisted.
VERDICT: I returned it. For the price, I’d have to love it and want to wear it often, and I just don’t see that happening. I already have two other denim skirts hanging in my closet that I rarely reach for, and even though I like this one better than either of those, I still don’t see myself getting a good cost per wear.

Gap Factory Ribbed Crewneck T-Shirt in Grey
at Gap Factory (S) // GF barrel jeans (S) // Gola Viper (7.5)

DETAILS:
- Straight, easy fit, hits at the hip.
- Soft ribbed knit.
- Short sleeves.
- Crewneck.
- 58% Cotton Conventional, 38% Polyester Conventional, 4% Elastane Conventional Spandex.
- Machine Wash.
This soft ribbed knit tee has a straight, easy fit with short sleeves and a classic crewneck. It’s a really good basic if you want something a little more fitted. It’s very soft and comfortable, and runs true to size—though you may want to size up if you’re in between.
VERDICT: I’m not sure I need this one since I have the AllSaints Stevie from the #NSale last summer that’s similar, but this is a great budget-friendly option if you need this style. It comes in tons of colors.

Gap Factory ForeverSoft Shrunken Crewneck T-Shirt in White Graphic
at Gap Factory (S) // GF barrell jeans (S) // Gola Viper (7.5)

DETAILS:
- Straight, easy fit.
- Hits above the hip.
- Slub jersey knit.
- 100% Cotton.
- Machine wash.
Another Gap Factory crewneck tee—this one is a slub jersey cotton with more of a boxy fit. I like the shorter length, and the fabric has a nice weight to it—it’s not super sheer. I sized up to a medium in this one.

VERDICT: I’m holding on to this one!

Gap Factory SuperSoft Barrel Sleeve Icon Denim Jacket
at Gap Factory (S) // GF Shrunken tee (S) // GF barrell jeans (S) // Gola Viper (7.5)

DETAILS:
- Medium indigo wash with fading.
- Dropped shoulder, long barrel sleeves with button cuffs.
- Patch pockets with button closures at chest, slant pockets at lower front.
- 55% Cotton, 40% Lyocell, 5% Recycled Cotton.
- Machine wash.
I love a denim jacket for spring and summer, and I’ve been wanting to replace the traditional trucker styles I passed on last year. They’re feeling a bit tired to me at the moment, so I’ve been on the hunt for a more modern version.
This one has an easy, straight fit and hits just above the hip—so in that respect, it has a slightly classic shape. But the trendy barrel sleeves and subtle drop shoulder give it a more relaxed, updated feel. It’s a great option if you don’t want to go full-on oversized but still want a fresh take on the classic jean jacket.
VERDICT: I’m holding onto this for now. I need to try it with some other outfits and see if I reach for it.

Gap Factory Mid Rise Super Soft Pull-On Barrel Jeans in Olive
at Gap Factory (S) // Gap Factory Shrunken tee (S) // Gola Viper (7.5)

DETAILS:
- Mid rise.
- Relaxed through the hip and thigh.
- Tapered leg.
- Inseam: 27″
- 59% Cotton, 36% Lyocell Conventional, 5% Cotton Recycled
- Machine Wash
These pants are kind of fun! I’ll admit, I didn’t have high expectations—but I actually kind of like them. They’re not so extreme that they feel silly, but they definitely play into the barrel jean trend that’s big right now. The olive shade is really nice, too. I just wish they were a tad shorter—I think barrel-leg styles look better when you can see a bit of ankle.
VERDICT: I may hold onto these and try them with flip flops or slides. I kind of like them as an alternative to blue jeans for casual days.

Wit & Wisdom Variegated Rib Knit Top
at Nordstrom (S) // KUT from the Kloth Meg (6) // Marc Fisher Glynne (8) // similar earrings // similar bracelet

DETAILS: Lilts of lace frame the neckline of an endlessly wearable top crafted in a cotton-enriched blend.
- Machine wash, line dry
- V-neck
- Short sleeves
- 47% cotton, 47% rayon, 6% spandex
I thought this was a really pretty piece to have in my summer closet—a little more elevated than a basic tee, but still made from a soft, comfortable knit. It has a flattering narrow V-neck and cap sleeves, and it follows the body without clinging. It’s a smidge longer than I usually like to wear untucked, but it works with a front tuck too. Overall, a nice in-between option when you want something casual but just a bit more polished.

VERDICT: I also have the black one coming in the size medium, so I’m going to wait and compare before deciding which one to keep. I’ll report back!

Wit & Wisdom Embellished Cap Sleeve Button-Up Shirt
at Nordstrom (S) // KUT Meg (6) // Marc Fisher Glynne (8) // similar earrings // similar bracelet

DETAILS: Pretty scrolling embellishments decorate the supple, drapey fabric of this shirt that’s finished with cap sleeve.
- 22″ length (size Medium)
- Hidden-button placket
- Band collar
- Cap sleeves
- 70% rayon, 30% lyocell
- Machine wash, line dry
And this pretty blouse is a really nice alternative to a basic tee, but the fabric feels pretty flammable—if you know what I mean. It’s also a little snug on me in the size small. I don’t know, though… it is pretty. Maybe the fabric isn’t a dealbreaker.

VERDICT: I returned this, but I may re-order in the medium. It’s pretty flattering and different from anything else I have—and it comes in a few other colors, too.

Sneakers & Summer Sandals
I’ve ordered a bunch of shoes over the past few weeks—mostly sneakers, plus one pair of summer sandals—and I’ve been saving them up to share all at once! Some of the sneakers are supportive styles I had in mind for my upcoming travels, but of course, they’ll be useful for everyday wear too. And the sandals are perfect for casual summer outfits.
Veronica Beard Valentina Slip-On Sneaker in CHIFFON- CAMEL
at Nordstrom (8.5) // MOTHER Dazzler Flood (30)

DETAILS: This chunky colorblocked sneaker is set on a grippy rubber sole with boxy lugs that extend up the toe and heel to offer firm grounding.
- If between sizes, order 1/2 size down.
- Slip-on style with elastic lacing
- Removable insole
- Textile upper/leather lining/rubber sole
I’ve had my eye on these for a while, but they always looked a little bulky—and since I already have a lot of sneakers, I kept passing on them. For this price point, I really need to be sure I’ll get a lot of wear out of them. But as I was finalizing my travel capsule for England, I realized my two go-to pairs of sneakers are pretty similar, so I started looking for alternatives to the VEJA Esplar with black accents. I wanted something with more contrast—either black sneakers or a pair with more black accents—and maybe even a higher-profile style with more support.
When these arrived, I was happily surprised to find that they’re slip-ons! (I hate futzing with laces!) I also like the added visual interest from the black accents and beige suede panels. The big lugs on the back are a fun design detail, too.

That said, I’m undecided on the comfort level. Because they’re slip-ons, I can’t tighten them, and my ankle does slip a bit when I walk. As supportive as they are—with lots of cushioning and solid arch support—they still feel a little bulky. These would be the pair I wear on the plane, and I’d pack the Paul Green Hadley.
Here’s how they would look with the SPANX travel set… and yes, I’m now debating changing up my travel outfit entirely! I love the Athleta Brooklyn Heights Cargo Pants, but they’re very thin. If it’s chilly in England, I may want something a little cozier—especially since I’ll probably be reaching for loungewear most evenings in the Cotswolds.

SPANX AirEssentials Wide Leg Pants (M) // SPANX AirEssentials Half Zip (S)
And this is how they look with a couple of the outfits I was considering for the trip… thoughts??

VERDICT: Still deciding… I’ve got these sitting in my room along with a few others I’m debating. Read on!

New Balance 327 Sneaker in Sea Salt/White
at Nordstrom and Zappos (9)

DETAILS: Heritage details meet modern attitude in a ’70s-throwback running shoe reissued as a standout street sneaker. Suede overlays keep the look bold and sneakerhead-savvy, while the heavily nubbed tread wraps up the toe and heel for a performance vibe that’s impossible to miss whether you’re coming or going.
- Synthetic and leather upper/synthetic lining/rubber sole
- Lace-up style
- Removable, cushioned insole
I’m probably the last woman in America to order these sneakers, but I’ve always thought they looked too bulky on my spindly legs—even though I think they’re so cute on everyone else. When I saw this black and white colorway, I figured it was time to give them a shot! I’ve heard they’re extremely comfortable, and I’ll definitely be doing a lot of walking on this trip.

They lean pretty athletic for my usual style with jeans, but they look great with the Athleta cargo pants and the SPANX wide-leg pants. I also think they’ll work with jeans for more casual looks. And I will say—they are very comfortable. I need to try them on with some of the other outfits in my capsule and see what I think.
VERDICT: I expect to keep these, even if I don’t end up wearing them to England. The price is right, and they’re a good option to have—definitely different from any of my other sneakers.

Vince Oasis Runner in Black
at Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom & Vince.com (8) // MOTHER Dazzler Flood Fray (29)

DETAILS: The retro runner is reimagined for now in a streamlined silhouette crafted from supple suede. Thoughtful details subtly nod to California’s coastal surfing scene, from the overlapping leather side-stripe accents reminiscent of swell breaks to a patterned outsole inspired by ocean waves.
- Lace-up closure.
- Rounded toe.
- Professional clean only.
- 100% Suede.
- Imported.
- Heel measures 1.37″.
I thought I might like more of a runner-style sneaker, and I do like how these are black suede with ivory accents—not as stark as white. They’re very comfortable, but the black suede feels a little heavy for spring and summer. I’m just not sure this is the shoe I’m looking for right now.
VERDICT: Probably returning these.

Vince Oasis Runner in Moonlight/Black
at Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom & Vince.com (8.5) // MOTHER Weekender (29)

DETAILS: The retro runner is reimagined for now in a streamlined silhouette crafted from sporty mesh with soft suede and leather contrasts. Thoughtful details subtly nod to California’s coastal surfing scene, from the overlapping side-stripe accents reminiscent of swell breaks to a patterned outsole inspired by ocean waves.
- Lace-up closure.
- Rounded toe.
- Logo-detailed tongue.
- Professional clean only.
- 100% Suede.
- Imported.
- Heel measures 1.37″.
Now these are really fun for summer! I like that they’re not a stark white base, but still a versatile light neutral—and the black accents would tie in nicely with black pants or jeans. The mesh design feels light and airy, which makes them feel more seasonal, too.
Here’s how they look styled with jeans and a sweater, potentially from my travel capsule. I don’t like them with jeans quite as much as the VEJAs I was planning to bring, but I think they work—especially if I end up wanting a more supportive shoe.

These kind of walk the line between a low-profile fashion sneaker and the chunkier, more athletic styles I’ve tried above. They’re also very lightweight and comfortable. My major hesitation is that I wouldn’t want to ruin them if it’s rainy or muddy.
VERDICT: I’m undecided… but even if they don’t make it to England, they might still be fun to have on hand.

Wow, that’s a lot of sneaker details! Any-who—I ordered these after someone mentioned that On makes a waterproof running sneaker. I’ve been wearing their regular runners for years, and they’re my most comfortable all-around sneakers. They’re definitely athletic, but they don’t look terrible with jeans if I have to wear a super supportive sneaker, and they work well with the Athleta cargo pants…

The waterproof version could come in handy—both at home and if it turns out to be a rainy week while I’m in England. I’m keeping an eye on the forecast… these wouldn’t be my first choice style-wise, but they could work if needed.
VERDICT: Still deciding, but I might keep them either way.

Marc Fisher Glynne Slides
at Nordstrom (8 ) // MOTHER Insider (29)

DETAILS: Bring an extra bit of poise to your casual style with this slide sandal topped with an intricately woven strap.
- Synthetic upper, lining and sole
Finally, I picked these up when I was at the mall with Becca a few days ago. I really like the woven crochet strap, and the footbed actually has some support to it. They’re soft, comfortable, and easy to throw on with cropped jeans or shorts.

They’re not super high quality—they’re all synthetic—but that’s reflected in the price point.
VERDICT: Keeping! I’ve already worn them—they’re cute and comfy, though they do rub a little at the edge of the strap. I wouldn’t want to walk miles in them, but they’re great for errands and casual get-togethers this summer.
And that’s a wrap—whew! This will be my last try-on haul before my trip, so I wanted to squeeze everything in. By the time I get back, we’ll be heading into Memorial Day weekend, and I expect I’ll be shifting gears to focus more on summer fashion from that point on.
Let me know if anything caught your eye—or if you’ve tried any of these pieces yourself!
