S’mores in the Oven, Air Fryer, or Microwave

While I love outdoor s’mores at home or while camping, sometimes the mosquitos are too fierce or it’s too cold outside. And that’s when you need to know how to make indoor s’mores.

You can make s’mores in the oven, in the air fryer, or in the microwave. It’s easy and safe, although each method has its own pros and cons—similar to making baked potatoes in the oven, air fryer, or microwave.

S’mores = Graham Crackers + Toasted Marshmallow + Chocolate

While I pretty much always stick with store-bought graham crackers when I’m making s’mores, you can use any kind of cookie that you think would make a good cookie sandwich.

Here are some homemade cookies recipes you might want to try:

I also typically use store-bought marshmallows but you could also take the opportunity to learn how to make homemade marshmallows.

Once you know the basic recipe, there are lots of ways to customize them like peppermint marshmallows, espresso marshmallows, and lemon and rosemary marshmallows.

Store-bought marshmallows are great, too!

  • Jumbo Sized – these work best in the oven or air fryer.
  • Classic Sized – these work well for all methods.
  • Mini Sized – can work for any method, although a little tricky to keep in place.
  • Stuffed Puffs – these come with some kind of center, like milk chocolate. These work well in the oven or air fryer.

You can use any kind of chocolate bar or chocolate candy (like peanut butter cups) for the centers of indoor s’mores.

S’mores in the Oven:

On a baking sheet, add as many graham crackers as you plan to use (you can make as many or as few s’mores as you like). Then, layer on the chocolate and marshmallows.

Broil for 1-2 minutes. This will broil fast! So keep a close eye.

Once the tops of the marshmallows are toasty, remove from the oven and add a graham cracker on top.

*Do not use parchment paper under a broiler.

S’mores in an Air Fryer:

Add a small piece of parchment paper (optional). Then, add one to two graham crackers, or as many as you have space for in your air fryer basket. Then add the marshmallow.

Air fry at 390°F for 3-4 minutes. Once the marshmallow looks toasted, turn the air fryer off. Add the chocolate on top of the toasted marshmallow and place the basket back in the (off) air fryer for 10+ seconds to slightly melt the chocolate.

Add the final graham cracker on top.

S’mores in the Microwave:

On a microwave-safe plate, add as many graham crackers as you want to make. Then, layer on chocolate and marshmallow.

Microwave for 10-15 seconds. The marshmallow will puff up, but not necessarily turn gold-brown or toasted looking like the other methods.

Add the top graham cracker and enjoy.

*Do not use Stuffed Puff marshmallows, as I found the centers tended to ooze out or burn in the microwave method. Regular, unstuffed marshmallows are best.

My favorite methods are the oven and the air fryer, as the marshmallows get that toasted exterior (as if cooked over a fire). But, if you are wanting something super quick, then microwave is the way to go.
