Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lipstick Review And Swatches

There is something so very special about a brand new tube of lipstick. And even more so if your favorite brand has just introduced a new formula of lipstick, right? I was delighted when I heard that Rare Beauty is launching new matte lipsticks. I went in to my local Sephora a few days back and they had these beautiful lipsticks on display. So I swatched all and picked up one shade from the Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lipstick Line. They also had the new lip liners, so I went ahead and swatched those as well.

According to the Sephora website this is “A buttery, pigment-rich, soft matte lipstick, available in a range of wearable shades, that hugs lips in pure comfort all day.”

My Experience

As I was swatching these Rare Beauty Kind Words lipsticks I realized that the shade range is very neutral leaning. No bold reds or hot pinks here. So there is one color at least for everyone here, if you like these kinds of tones. On my medium NC 35 – NC 37, Chanel 40 Beige skin tone, some of the lighter shades washed me out. I would be able to wear those if I had a bolder eye look or if I paired it with a lip gloss. But that would be too much work. I want to be able to just swipe the lipstick and go. So I picked one of the bolder shades – Bold.

The formula is matte but does not feel drying. It feels very velvety and smooth. Some lighter shades accentuated my lip lines but the darker shades did not do that. Also applying a bit of lip balm before applying the lipsticks solved this issue. These lipsticks are very pigmented. One swipe is all you need. Also these are not transfer proof.

The matching lip liners will help the color last longer. But I don’t wear lip liners every time I wear lipsticks. So I did not purchase any. But I have swatched them next to the corresponding lipstick shade.

Pros

  • Velvety smooth formula
  • Vegan and cruelty-free

Cons

  • Some shades accentuate my lip lines
  • No bold reds, orange reds or hot pinks (may be they will more colors later)
