The Akshay Kumar starrer Raksha Bandhan that also features Bhumi Pednekar was released today. Directed by Aanand L Rai the film which is an emotional sibling relationship story was expected to open on a modest note.
Living up to these expectations Raksha Bandha has in fact, started off on an expected note with occupancy during morning and early afternoon shows being pegged at 15%. Facing competition from the other new release in the form of the Aamir Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha, the fight for screen space resulted in a low-key advance booking rate that has greatly affected both Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha. However, Raksha Bandhan which enjoys greater penetration in tier two and tier three cities, single screens and mass dominated sectors is expected to do moderate to decent business. The occupancy in multiplexes was below the mark and the film needs support in terms of spot booking and positive word of mouth to see it through.
Though the film does not really offer much to youth, the family centric theme and emotional content of the film has endeared it to the theatre going family audience. With mass dominated Hindi belts preferring Raksha Bandhan over the other release, the business of the film is expected to see an increase as day progresses. In fact, trade opines that the Akshay Kumar starrer could well see its opening day business in double digits.
