Tony-nominated playwright Matthew Lopez (“The Inheritance”) has come onboard to pen a reimagining of iconic 1992 romantic drama “The Bodyguard” at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner led the original which grossed more than $400 million at the worldwide box office along with sporting the bestselling movie soundtrack of all time.
No cast for the new version has been set at this stage. Lawrence Kasdan, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are producing.
Lopez is currently scripting a film adaptation of the novel “Leading Men” about playwright Tennessee Williams and his longtime partner Frank Merlo.
