With the much-anticipated Naked Gun reboot hitting theaters August 1, Liza Koshy is adding another major role to her growing list of on-screen wins. From Work It and Transformers to Players, A Family Affair and Summer of ’69, Koshy continues to prove she’s more than just a scene-stealer—she’s a true multi-hyphenate on the rise.
Off-screen, Koshy is just as impactful. A self-proclaimed beauty lover, fashion favorite and passionate activist, she uses her voice to speak up about the issues she cares about most, including gender equality, reproductive rights, climate justice and global food access. With humor, heart and a whole lot of talent, Koshy is making her mark, while teaching us a lesson about masking in the process.
Inside Out
“I tend to attack my beauty routine from the inside out; I’ve got to nurse the inside in order to glow on the outside. I totally drink water like no other. I am from Houston, and it’s extremely humid here. When I moved to LA, I had to drink so much water, not realizing how dry the climate is. My water of choice is Smartwater. I don’t even know why it is my choice, but I think because it was marketed brilliantly and told me, ‘Clouds have the same process that we have.’”
Fitness Fix
“After I down Smartwater, I go to Barry’s Bootcamp. I thought it was such a stereotype of LA for years. Then, I got into it and now I am the stereotype! It is a really great workout, and I’ve tried a lot of different workouts. I did SoulCycle for way too many classes. I’m not going to say the number, because if you do the math, it’s disgusting how much money I spent on SoulCycle. I plan on spending the same on Barry’s. I absolutely love how quick it is—45 minutes, and I am drenched! It’s the best way to start my day.”
Vitamin Pack
“Recently, because I made the move to New York seven months ago, I’ve had to learn to deal with a totally different climate. Meaning, I’ve never dealt with the cold before. It turns out I’m a wimp and don’t know how to deal with the cold. By the cold, I mean the many colds that the cold comes with. I was constantly sick. I did some research trying to figure out how the heck I can overcome this hay fever in the winter. I ended up finding a solve of sorts in Cymbiotika’s Glutathione ($88). Oh, Cymbiotika is brilliant. Liposomals are the ideal way. It’s like adult gummies. I am just downing three or four different types.”
Sleep Number
“To sleep, I take magnesium L-threonate, which is so helpful for a deep slumber. The glutathione has helped build my immunity back up to deal with me constantly facing the public. I thank Cymbiotika for that as well. They’ve made some incredible, incredible products and a way to make a tasty vitamin in liquid form. I didn’t think that was possible. I’m ruined by the idea of liquid medicine from cough syrup as a kid. I’m also into MaryRuth’s organic liposomals ($28), which is a multivitamin for women. I put it on top of yogurt. It’s delicious. I didn’t know it could come in this tasty of a form, but I love eating vitamins.”
Vanity Must
“Funny enough, my vanity is actually two cabinetry lights that flicker on automatically, motion-activated. I bought two of those strips from Amazon and smack them onto my mirror so that literally my vanity light is this under cabinetry motion-activated light. Just a small fun fact!”
Grow Team
“I pretty much always start my beauty routine with the Vegamour line. It’s incredible for hair growth. I just cut my hair into this curly little bob. My hairstylist recommended Vegamour to induce hair growth on my sides and baby hairs and to reduce hair loss. It’s an incredible product. They have a full line of products, from shampoo to conditioner to texturizing mousse and texturizing spray. I have yet to try those, but the one that I love is the growth serum; GRO is the name of the product. I use that every night. It’s not greasy, which I’m not used to because most hair products that induce hair growth are oil-based, and theirs is water-based. I’m able to put it on in the morning and go about my day and allow it to induce the hair growth without it looking gross. It doesn’t affect my curl pattern. It doesn’t affect my hair’s oiliness or texture. It just does what it needs to do without anyone knowing. It’s a great product. I’ve loved using it recently.”
Eye Spy
“Then, as I’m getting ready for the day, I tend to use my 111SKIN under-eye patches. I love! Their stuff is great. I use their under-eye patches all the time. The blue ones! I’m forgetting the name, but I know it’s cryo-something. It’s for depuffing. I get very puffy because I get very deep sleep, thanks to Cymbiotika and magnesium L-threonate. I wake up super puffy in the morning. 111SKIN always helps me depuff, and so does Barry’s.”
Makeup Musts
“After my patches, I do my makeup. I use a lot of Glossier products. I love their foundation and they have that cream concealer that comes in a little pot. It has incredible coverage. Any skin picking I’ve done is deleted—erased right off my face. Their foundation is super thin and super buildable. I just love smacking that on with my sunscreen. For SPF, I tend to use Supergoop. Love them. I also use Pat McGrath lip liner in the color Mocha Obsession ($29). I love a pouty lip. I do the lip liner on the top and not the bottom—if you do that, you look like some saucy cartoon. [laughs] I love, love, love Pat McGrath. I think she’s just absolute genius. The brand is genius. We love a black woman in makeup. She’s a powerhouse. Then, I just recently discovered prepping your eyelashes with a maximizer…that is what Dior calls it. I use Dior Iconic Overcurl ($35) and Overvolume ($38). It comes with this white bottle that extends your lashes even longer and builds a layer around your lash. I absolutely love this Dior set. It’s the perfect shape for my eye. It just lengthens the little lashes on the end. It looks like I have extensions on with this combination.”
Facial Fake
“111SKIN is my number-one if I haven’t made that clear. I prep my face every single day by using their under-eye patches…sometimes, I also use them when I’m falling asleep. They wouldn’t recommend it! But I would recommend falling asleep in their face mask! Everybody always asks me, ‘What facial did you just go to? You look amazing.’ I’m like, ‘I just used a face mask last night for seven hours.’”
Retinol Rundown
“Besides 111SKIN, I’m all about Allies of Skin. They have some incredible products. Their retinol is the only retinol that my face can handle. I have very sensitive skin. They’re really high scored on Yuka, which is this app that holds American products to European standards. They have a great score on there. There’s a cleanser that I use. It’s in a silver bottle. It’s super hydrating. It’s right here. I can walk to the bathroom two feet away, but I’m too lazy. Allies of Skin Molecular Silk Amino Hydrating Cleanser ($41). It’s just so nice. It emulsifies, it removes makeup. I do double cleanse. I do love using that. There’s a blue one, too, which is called the Allies of Skin Cleansing Balm ($49).”
Ice Cold
“What else did I use on Naked Gun? The classic tips and tricks of dunking your face in ice water that everybody and their mothers do. It really is accurate to say it’s been Hollywood’s secret for years—especially with 4:00 a.m. or 5:00 a.m call times. Your face looks completely different in the middle of the night. To get it back to, I don’t know, a normal-looking human face, you dunk your face into ice water. And, yes, I use Smartwater for that.”
Lip Service
“Let’s see. What else did I do on that set? I’m trying to think of the lip I used. I think I used Dior lip oil ($42). It is a hydrating lip oil that doesn’t make your lips feel like they’re in desperate need of more. It hydrates, and as you slowly eat it throughout the course of the day, your lips still feel moisturized. It doesn’t feel like too much. I just wrapped a movie yesterday here in Texas, and I was using Dior lip oil the entire time. It’s a horror movie that we shot outside. Yes, it’s a horror movie, and yes, I’m running through my life, and yes, my lips are super glossy.”
Signature Scent
“Speaking of this horror film…since we were shooting outside for night shoots, we used a lot of bug spray, and also a lot of perfume. I was constantly complimented on how good I smelled—even after running through a forest from said actor that I cannot say yet because it hasn’t been announced. I was complimented that I smelled good, and I was like, ‘That’s crazy.’ It is Who is Elijah Wall Street perfume ($169). Their stuff is great. Really good. Really good. Mine’s the Wall Street flavor. Or should I call it an essence…or a scent. There we go! I don’t know if it smells like Wall Street, but I guess I do smell like a very successful, expensive man. It’s musky, so let’s say I smell like a floral, musky woman and a successful, expensive one at that. Who is Elijah makes really great scents. I love, love, love that Wall Street one. I’m not someone to gatekeep my perfumes. I know people like to smell like their smell, but let the people know: If they smell weird, they can smell better with Who is Elijah.”
