Live: West Indies vs Australia in Jamaica
TEA: West Indies in tatters at 6-22 after 10 overs
West Indies are ostensibly chasing 204 for victory, but let’s not worry about that and just appreciate this performance of Mitchell Starc in his 100th Test.
He’s got 5-6 off five overs.
He took his five wickets faster than anyone else, doing so in 15 balls.
He’s the fourth Australian to pass 400 Test wickets and the 18th player overall.
10th over – Hazlewood keeps the pressure on
Pat Cummins is going to have to pry the ball out of these guys’ hands.
It’s about to be tea by the way. That snuck up.
FOUR! Clipped fine and that takes the West Indies past 20.
9th over – Starc hunting his best haul
Alzarri Joseph is defending. I’m honestly surprised he’s not swinging for the fences.
It looks like the ball has lost it’s prodigious swing.
As evidence of that, Starc bangs in a bouncer and Joseph gets under it.
Starc ends the over by coming around the wicket, and Joseph drives outside off, but straight to gully.
A maiden for Starc.
Lowest Test scores in history
The numbers the West Indies are trying to avoid are 26, the lowest score in Test history, and 47, the lowest score by any West Indian side.
Here are the lowest Test scores ever:
- 26 by New Zealand vs England in 1955
- 30 by South Africa vs England in 1896
- 30 by South Africa vs England in 1924
- 35 by South Africa vs England in 1899
- 36 by South Africa vs Australia in 1932
- 36 by Australia vs England in 1902
- 36 by India vs Australia in 2020
- 38 by Ireland vs England in 2019
- 42 by New Zealand vs Australia in 1946
- 42 by Australia vs England in 1888
- 42 by India vs England in 1974
- 42 by Sri Lanka vs South Africa in 2024
8th over – Josh Hazlewood is keeping the pressure on
Justin Greaves pulls away into the deep for two runs.
FOUR! Greaves is playing in a ‘If there’s a ball with my name on it, I’m not hanging around for it to find me’ mindset, as he carves a ball to the rope behind point.
7th over – Mitchell Starc yomps in at Alzarri Joseph
And beats the outside edge again.
Joseph is leaving as Starc drags his length back.
DROPPED! Alzarri Joseph edges out to third slip and Sam Konstas goes with one hand, but can’t hold on. That went quickly, but I think he could’ve gone with two hands.
6th over (cont) – Alzarri Joseph is batting with Justin Greaves
These two have to be on a mission to take the West Indies past 26. That’s the lowest score in Test history.
Hazlewood seams one past the outside edge.
Josh Hazlewood is in on the act! West Indies are 6-11
We’re getting into record territory as skipper Roston Chase tries to smash Josh Hazlewood through the off side and just gets a simple edge through to Josh Inglis.
He’s out for a duck and Alzarri Joseph is out there batting in just the sixth over.
6th over – Here comes Hazlewood
If he wants a wicket, you sense he has to do it quickly.
MITCHELL STARC HAS FIVE WICKETS IN 15 BALLS!

Another one fired down, swinging down the line of the stumps, pitching on middle, seaming further and cannoning into Shai Hope’s knee.
Nitin Menon raises the finger and Shai Hope has to go.
Starc has 5-2 in 15 balls. It’s the fastest in Test history.
This is hilarious.
5th over (cont) – Mitchell Starc continues
A run? Off Mitchell Starc? Wouldn’t have thought so.
But yes, apparently that’s allowed.
Shai Hope gets off the mark with an edge that Josh Inglis can’t quite stop.
Mitchell Starc has 400 Test wickets!!
Starc swings another one down the line of the stumps and has Mikyle Louis plumb LBW. So plumb he doesn’t even bother reviewing.
It’s Starc’s 400th Test wicket, making him just the fourth Australian — after Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Nathan Lyon — to reach that mark.
And he’s done it in typically dramatic circumstances, taken four wickets for zero runs in 13 balls on this third morning of his 100th Test.
His best figures are 6-48. Surely he’s coming for that today.
5th over – Starc has gone six balls without a wicket. What’s wrong?
Watch Mitchell Starc’s three-wicket opening over
4th over – Hazlewood trying to get in on the act
Ouch! Hazlewood seams one back and hits the West Indies skipper right in his bits and pieces. He’s chuckling (it is very funny) but here come the trainers.
Chase is back on his feet and playing an missing outside off.
It’s another maiden for Hazlewood.
I mean, what more can you say?
Speechless
– Steve
Starc… WOOOWW!!!
– Mister
We’ve seen seven wickets before 30 runs have been scored this morning.
3rd over – Here comes Starc, who’s on a hat-trick
Mikyle Louis survives the hat-trick ball, defending it away to the off side.
Imagine if he’d got it. Starc would’ve been the first Australian in 15 years (since Peter Siddle got a hat-trick on his birthday) to claim three in three in a Test.
It would’ve come in his 100th Test, and it would’ve been his 400th Test wicket.
Alas, we’ll just have to hope for the last two to come some time today.
That’s a maiden from Starc. Credit to him for just continuing to bowl good areas and not searching for freak dismissal balls. He’s pitching it up and trying to get it to swing.
2nd over – Roston Chase is out in the middle in disastrous circumstances
Josh Hazlewood is bowling and Mikyle Louis safely leaves his first ball for the innings with his team already three wickets down.
Four! The first runs of the innings come off the edge of Louis’s bat, through the slip cordon for four.
West Indies finally have more runs than wickets.
Louis turns off his hip and it balloons over short leg for another single.
MITCHELL STARC IS ON A HAT-TRICK! West Indies are 3-0!!!
Brandon King comes and goes even faster than Kevlon Anderson, bowled through the gate by a superb in-swinger by Mitchell Starc.

Three wickets in the first over.
Three ducks.
Three for Starc.
And he’s on a hat-trick!
