Live: Dog interrupts play as West Indies skipper falls after lunch

Live: West Indies vs Australia in Grenada

39th over: Starc working the angle once more

Hope is pushing into the off-side for a single.

The next one is down the leg side and through to Carey.

We’ve seen a fair few of those wide ones down leg so far today.

That’s a lovely push from King, who gets a couple back past the bowler.

Flashing! It’s through point but collected on the boundary. Just a single.

The West Indies have passed 150.

Starc finds a good one and King is playing and missing to end the over.

38th over: Lyon to spin some down

He’s only bowled overs so far today and he’s over the wicket to Shai Hope, who is back and defending the first.

That’s a nice looking shovel into the on-side and the batters run a single.

Lyon decides to come around the wicket to the right handed King.

Dangerous! King dances down the track straight away and is driving aerially towards long-off. It falls safe and the batters get another run.

Lovely shot! King gets a bit of width and is on the back foot pushing one past a diving cover point. It trickles to the boundary and that’s over.

37th over: Starc is back for more

Shout! Starc is around the wicket to King and angling one in. The ball thunders into the batter’s pads but it’s clearly going down leg despite Starc’s enthusiasm.

King works one off his toes, the batters run a quick one and contemplate returning for a second. However, Head is collecting quickly in the outfield and they wisely decide against it.

Hope works another single to end the over.

    36th over: Webster in again

He’s holding down an end here, Big Beau.

    And doing it very well.

He sends down an attempted yorker to Hope that is too straight.

Shot! That’s a thing of beauty from Shai Hope, who strides forward to a full one and creams it over extra cover. It’s a one bounce four.

Webster strays a bit straight here, and Hope is able to work one of his toes for a couple.

A peach to end the over! This one moves away from Hope, who is playing and missing outside off.

35th over continued: King faces up after milestone

And it’s another edge! But this one falls well short of the cordon.

The final ball of the over is met by a driving King. It’s a nice looking shot into cover but it’s well stopped in the field and that’s a dot to end the over.

    50 for Brandon King!

It’s a streaky way to get there, but he’s there none-the-less.

A thick edge over gully flies to the fence and that’s Brandon King’s first Test match 50 and his team’s first of the series.

35th over: Starc gets his first go after lunch

And he’s around the wicket to the right handed Hope.

Starc is using the angle straight away to make Hope play at one that really rears up off a good length.

This one is banged in on a similar length but a little straighter. Hope gets a legbye.

    34th over: Webster gets another

Hope is back and defending two probing deliveries on off-stump.

He’s still well outside of his crease as he flicks one in the air in front of square. The batters cross for a single.

King is leaving outside off stump.

Great stuff from Beau Webster! Another one flirting with nipping back towards King decides to hold it’s line a touch. King is playing and missing outside off.

    33rd over: Hazlewood to King

    We have an intruder.

A medium sized black dog has made his way onto the pitch, and is strolling around the outfield very casually.

Everyone just seems to be waiting for him to make his way off but he isn’t immediately keen on that.

Eventually, he makes his way over the boundary.

And bang! Brandon King has just smashed Hazlewood over the boundary as well. He’s standing up to a short one and getting massive contact on his pull shot.

King moves to 48 with that six.

King is solid in defence for the over’s final two deliveries.

    32nd over: Webster gets another

He’s a proper workhorse, is Beau Webster.

You feel like he’d be comfortable running in all day if needed.

There’s a stifled appeal as King uses a combination of bat and pad to work a single behind square.

Hope gets his first look at Webster and is defending a really wide one.

He’s batting a long way out of his crease as he’s pushing to mid-off.

And he’s finding mid-on to end the over.

    Just one from it.

    31st over: Hazlewood to Hope

Although he hasn’t quite shown it at Test level, Shai Hope is by no means a slouch with the bat.

The wicketkeeper batter has spent his career in and out of the WIndies red ball setup, but averages just about 50 in ODIs.

He’s cut in half by one! That’s a wonderful ball from Hazlewood. After seeing so many deliveries nip in, Hope is playing for a bit of inward movement. However, this one hits the seam and straightens. Hope misses it by a mile as the ball flies over off stump.

Hope gets his bat to it this time and is defending back to Hazlewood.

Shot! Slightly fuller and Hope takes full advantage, striding forward and punching one through the covers and to the fence for four.

    That’s over.

30th over: Webster from the other end

Surprisingly, Pat Cummins has opted to go with his fourth seamer from the other end after lunch.

Webster will be bowling to King, who is now in the 40s.

His first ball of the session is wide and left alone outside off.

King is flashing at a wide one but miscuing it. It squirts out into the on-side infield for no run.

This one is straighter and King is forward and defending. The longer his innings has gone on, the more comfortable King has looked playing those jag-backers.

    That’s over.

29th over continued: Hazlewood has two to come

And it’s wicketkeeper Shai Hope to the middle.

He’s back and keeping the first one out.

And he’s playing inline of the second.

That’s the end of a successful over for the Australians.

    Hazlewood strikes!

    And it’s an excellent review!

It looked very close live, and once DRS confirmed there was no bat involved, it felt like Chase’s innings was over.

Sure enough, Hazlewood’s nipper-backer was good enough for three reds and captain chase is back in the pavilion.

29th over: Hazlewood to open up after lunch

He was the man to make the breakthrough in the first session, and he’s being tasked with doing the same in the second.

And he’s straight into his work, bringing King forward and defending one on a fourth stump line.

King works the first single of the second session courtesy of a glide through point.

Chase is back and defending a nip-backer for his first ball of the afternoon session.

Big shout! Hazlewood is pleading with the umpire as the ball strikes Chase on the front pad. It looked very close but the umpire says no. Cummins runs in and sends it upstairs….

LUNCH: West Indies 3-110 (King 38, Chase 16)

Steve Smith looks at a cricket ball he's holding.
    (AP)

It looked like Australia’s session for sure until that final hour when Brandon King and Roston Chase really got some boundaries flowing.

Opener John Campbell also whacked five fours and a six in his 40 off 52, while King has six boundaries and Chase has a six and a four.

As expected, batting looks a lot easier after about 20 overs and it’s no surprise the last wicket came in the 16th over.

Pat Cummins and Australia will need to stay patient and energetic in the field to ensure the hosts don’t get on top in the afternoon session.

28th over – One more before the break

Nathan Lyon starts his over with seconds left on the clock.

BANG! Brandon King strides down the pitch and smacks four back over Lyon’s head. What a shot. And gutsy just before lunch too.

Four more. This time on the sweep. Runs are flowing right now.

And he keeps the last ball out to end the session.

27th over – Pat Cummins will take us to lunch

He starts with a bouncer and Roston Chase barely has to move as the ball sails down leg.

Chase is able to get off strike, and Brandon King is defensive against Cummins.

I thought the gate was open there, but King’s able to push down the ground for a single.

SIX! What a shot! Roston Chase just clips the last ball of the over off his pads and it’s perfectly timed over mid-wicket for six. Amazing.

26th over – Nathan Lyon will have an over before lunch

A different look for this pair with the break looming.

Roston Chase is able to get deep in his crease and whip away for a single into the deep.

IN THE AIR … but safe. Brandon King tries to clip off his pads and almost chips it straight to mid-on, but it doesn’t quite reach Mitchell Starc.

Then a ball spins past the edge and gets some pad. A bit of life in it for Lyon.
