Live: Alcaraz wins US Open over Sinner, reclaims world number one ranking

Carlos Alcaraz is up next and has a lovely victor’s speech.

“Wow. I want to start with Jannik,” he says.

“It’s unbelievable what you are doing during the whole season. Great level in every tournament.

“I’ve seen you more than my family, Jesus.

“It’s great to share the court and the locker room with you. Watching you improve every day working really hard with your team. Congratulations on everything you’re doing.

“The hard work you’re working just to make me better, not only in the professional part, but the personal part as well.

“Every achievement I’m having is because of you. This one is also yours, so I wanted to say thank you to my team.”

Jannik Sinner gets a rousing ovation as he approaches the podium.
