Limca soft drink review – Is it better than other soft drinks? – Health & Healthier

Limca is a carbonated soft drink with a light lemony flavor that feels extremely refreshing. In India, Limca is quite popular and is often compared to Pepsi, Mirinda, Thumps Up and other major cold drinks.

Marketed and manufactured by the Coca-Cola company, Limca acts as a refreshment drink, especially during the summer months. Children, as well as adults, love this soft drink because of its mild lemony flavor and refreshing taste.

So today, we will be reviewing Limca and will be analyzing if it is good for our health or not. Let’s begin.

Limca soft drink review – Analyzing ingredients and nutrition

Carbonated water

The first ingredient mentioned on the list is carbonated water. Carbonated water is nothing but normal water infused with carbon dioxide gas under pressure. It is safe for our health and considered great for digestion. In fact, most soft drinks in India have the presence of carbonated water as their main ingredient.

Amount of sugar

Of course, most soft drinks in India always have a high amount of sugar content. Similarly, Limca also mentions the presence of sugar. A 250ml pack of Limca contains about 25g of sugar which is quite high compared to other sodas. This amount of sugar intake can be manipulated by maintaining your diet and doing workouts on a regular basis.

Acidity regulators

Limca mentions the presence of acidity regulators 330 and 331. 330 is also known as citric acid and 331 is also known as sodium citrate. Both acidity regulators are considered safe for our health.

Stabilizers

Limca mentions the presence of stabilizer 414. Stabilizer 414 is nothing but guar gum. Guar gum generally acts as fiber and is generally added to a product to maintain the texture of the product.

Another stabilizer added in Limca is stabilizer 471. It is generally mon or disaccharides of fatty acids and is again not at all harmful to our health.

Preservative 211

Preservatives are generally added to a product to prevent microbial growth in the product. Preservative 211 is also known as sodium benzoate which is not 100% safe for our health. There are still controversies related to sodium benzoate where it is not yet proven whether it is safe for our health. Especially, this preservative is not at all recommended for pregnant women, lactating moms and children.

Lemon flavor

The lemon refreshing flavor that you get from Limca is not because of the presence of lemon juice in it. Rather the lemon flavor is artificially added. So don’t think that real lemon is added in Limca.

Limca Final Review

The best part that I like about Limca is that they do not use any added colors. Added colors generally have several side effects. Compared to other soft drinks like Mirinda, Fanta, Pepsi, Thumps UP and Coca-Cola, Limca is still better as it has very less preservatives compared to them.

Moreover, Limca is also free from caffeine which makes it stand out among other colas. Also, the choice of acidity regulators and stabilizers in Limca is right up to the mark.

The only downside of Limca is the usage of Preservative 211 which actually is believed to have harmful side effects. If you are opting to consume Limca occasionally, then it is fine. But if you are planning to consume it on a regular basis, it’s a big “NO”.

Yes, it is still better than many other drinks and sodas available in the Indian markets but it is an empty nutrition soft drink. So yes, compared to all other sodas and soft drinks available in the Indian markets, Limca could be your best choice.
