Latest Aussie cricket selector announced

The men’s National Selection Panel (NSP) has been locked in with the appointment of former Australian fast bowler-turned administrator Tony Dodemaide.

Dodemaide joins Australian coach Justin Langer and George Bailey to make up the panel and he’ll now be in the hot seat to help make the decisions on who makes Australia’s Test team for the hotly anticipated Ashes series.

Dodemaide replaces Trevor Hohns and brings with him a wealth of experience in cricket administration after being CEO of Cricket Victoria and the General Manager of an elite national Australian hockey competition.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a contribution not only in the immediate tournaments and series but also to help chart the medium to longer term course of the Australian men’s teams,” Dodemaide said.

“I can’t wait to offer my experience in cricket as a player and in management to assist George and JL but also the wider Australian cricket high-performance network.

Cricket Australia said that Dodemaide was the best of the best after a long recruitment process.

“Tony led a field of very strong candidates and we are thrilled to have him join the NSP at an important and exciting period for the Australian men’s team,” CA’s General Manager of High-Performance Ben Oliver said.

Dodemaide will be in charge of picking the next bright talent to wear the Baggy Green and he knows all too well about taking your opportunities.

Dodemaide scored a fifty and took 6-58 in his debut Test in the 1987 Boxing Day Test at the MCG.

He ended up playing 10 Tests and also had an impressive ODI debut.

The 58-year-old knows all too well that he needs to be just as adaptable as the players he’ll be selecting.

“I very much enjoyed the opportunity to work in hockey, another great and respected Australian sport, after many years in the cricket system. To experience first-hand how other sports operate brings new perspective and learnings to the table.

“Like any system, high-performance sport, including list management and selection, is always evolving. I believe cricket can tap further into other sports and be a world leader in these areas.”

Dodemaide’s role with Cricket Australia officially commences in mid-November.
