I Found the BEST Hunza G Dupe (After Trying 6 Brands)

The Best Hunza G Swimsuit Lookalike

I’ve always thought Hunza G swimsuits were kind of overrated. After trying three different styles—including their signature one-piece (two times, 3 years apart, just to see if it was a me issue), the strapless version, and one-piece with cutouts—I realized something: the one-size-fits-most thing doesn’t really work for me. I’m petite, and these suits offered zero shape. The straps slipped off constantly, and the fit just wasn’t flattering. That crinkled fabric might look great on some body types, but on me? It felt like a miss every time.

So I went on a mission. Was it the Hunza G style I didn’t like—or did another brand do it better?

Spoiler: another brand definitely does it better. And you might be shocked by who came out on top. Target. Yes, Target. I tried six Hunza G lookalikes, and Target’s one-piece version was my favorite overall—especially considering the price.

First, let’s talk about Hunza G and why people are so obsessed. Then, I’ll share the best (and worst) dupes I tried.

    Hunza G Review

Why Is Hunza G So Popular?

Hunza G has built its cult following on a few key pillars:

    • Crinkle Fabric: Their signature textured material gives the swimsuits a distinctive look and incredible stretch.
    • One-Size Simplicity: You don’t have to choose a size—just grab and go. They supposedly work through pregnancy, postpartum and even back to your pre-baby size.
    • Minimalist ’80s-Inspired Cuts: Their square necklines and high-cut legs are designed to flatter (in theory).

Celebrity Endorsements: Everyone from Kim Kardashian to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has been spotted in Hunza G, which has certainly helped the brand’s reputation.

The vibe is chic and effortless. But the fit? That’s another story.

Does Hunza G Really Fit Everyone?

In short—no. At least not in a flattering way for everyone. They claim to fit sizes 2–12 (sometimes up to 14), but based on my experience, “fitting” and “flattering” are not the same.

I’m petite, and none of the styles gave me shape or support. The straps on most styles slipped off my shoulders or sat awkwardly. I tried:

The aesthetic is great, but for me, the execution fell flat—especially at over $200 a suit.

How Do One-Size-Fits-Most Swimsuits Even Work?

Most of these suits rely on stretchy, textured fabrics like crinkle-knit to create a flexible fit. The goal is to hug your curves and “adapt” to your body. And while they do technically stretch to accommodate different sizes, that doesn’t guarantee the result looks or feels good.

Without built-in support, compression, or structured seams, these suits can feel loose or unflattering—especially if you’re on either end of the size spectrum.

    Best Hunza G Dupes

After trying six different brands, here’s how they stacked up.

    Best Overall: Target

The Target Hunza G dupe shocked me. It’s the best balance of price, fit, and style. The crinkle fabric mimics Hunza G’s look, and the fit is surprisingly flattering. The straps still fall off a bit, but less than others. While it’s not quite as slimming or lengthening as the Good American version, it’s so good for the price.

    Rating: 8/10

    Most Slimming: Good American

If you’re looking for compression and support, this Good American swimsuit is it. The fabric holds you in without feeling restrictive, and the cut is very lengthening. The straps still fall off now and then, but not enough to bother me. I may exchange mine for another color since I already have a black suit I love, but of the pricier options, this was the best.

    Rating: 7/10

Best Colorway: Show Me Your MuMu

The patriotic colorway on this one-piece is gorgeous. I wanted to love the suit since I loved the pattern, but the fit reminded me too much of Hunza G: loose and floppy, especially in the straps. I’d need to have them shortened to make it wearable, but the colorway almost makes it worth it.

    Rating: 6/10

    The Worst: J.Crew

I had high hopes because I love J.Crew swimwear in general. But this scrunchie one-piece was a mess. The shelf bra didn’t fit right, the straps were way too loose, and there was major gapping around the arms. The stripes were cute but the fit was so bad that I would never wear this out of the house.

    Rating: 3/10

    The Mediocre: Amazon

You get what you pay for here. The fit of this Amazon swimsuit was okay—I could maybe wear it publicly—but it wasn’t flattering. Basically a thong in the back, and the fabric had weird streaks. I liked the wider straps and the color, but it had no waist compression and felt cheap overall.

    Rating: 4/10

    Most Secure: Lilly Pulitzer

This rib-knit one-piece has a halter style, so it naturally stayed in place better than the others. That said, it’s not my favorite style to begin with since it emphasizes the chest so much. Add in a loose midsection and a baggy butt, and it was a loser.

    Rating: 5/10

    Final Thoughts

I wanted to love Hunza G, but after four tries, I had to admit it’s just not for me. If you’ve had the same experience—or you’ve been curious but hesitant to drop $200+ — I highly recommend trying the Target swimsuit dupe first. It’s cute, comfortable, and actually wearable… which is more than I can say for a few of the high-end options.

Let me know if you’ve found a one-size-fits-all suit that actually works—I’d love to keep the test going. And if you are a Hunza G believer, tell us why! I’d also be curious to know how tall you are.
