How to Get The Baby Soft Skin Of Your Dreams | The Skinny Confidential

We all want soft and supple skin…just like a baby’s.

Babies have the most flawlessly soft and smooth skin you can imagine. It’s hard not to be a little jealous.

But, while achieving baby soft skin can feel like a daunting goal, it’s actually super doable. You may have to make a few adjustments to your routines in order to get the effect you desire and we’re here to guide you.

These small changes will make a BIG difference. They’ll help you achieve that soft and flawless skin you’re dreaming of.

So, if you want skin as soft as a baby’s, you’ve come to the right place. Today’s post is a practical and effective guide on how to get baby soft skin.

How to Get Baby Soft Skin

Sometimes, even the best routines can be interrupted by things that trigger bumpy, rough skin. Learning the causes of rough skin can help you avoid these triggers.

What Causes Rough And Bumpy Skin?

Signs of aging (fine lines and wrinkles)

    Dryness

    Dead skin cell buildup

    Exposure to toxins

    Inflammation

    Sun exposure

    Skin conditions (psoriasis, eczema, etc.)

How To Get Soft And Smooth Skin

    Make non-toxic swaps.

One of the causes of rough skin is inflammation. Believe it or not, some products you’re using may be causing skin issues due to inflammatory ingredients. We recommend making product swaps to non-toxic products. This goes for your home as well as your skincare routine. You can find healthier body care swaps here and Lauryn’s pregnancy safe face and body products here.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all that you need to potentially swap, going fragrance-free is a great place to start. Many artificial fragrances are especially irritating to the skin and body.

Some of Lauryn’s favorite non-toxic skincare brands are:

    + K’pure (use code LAURYN)

    + Osea (use code SKINNY)

+ Primally Pure (use code SKINNY)

    Cleanse daily.

If you’ve seen the The HIM & HER Show episode with Staci Christie, you know that most people don’t get their skin clean enough (especially at night). This can seriously affect the smoothness of your skin.

If you’ve got any stressors or irritants hanging out on your skin, they’re going to wreak havoc until they’re gone. You definitely don’t want them making themselves at home in your skin while you’re sleeping. Sleep is the best time for your skin to heal from exposure to toxins.

So, make sure you’re removing dirt and toxins and getting your skin clean, especially before bed. Staci Christie, Lauryn’s favorite facialist, recommends double cleansing at night.

    Use chemical exfoliants.

One of the factors that contributes to rough skin is a buildup of dead skin cells. Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This leaves behind smoother, newer, more baby-like skin.

We recommend using a chemical exfoliant before a physical exfoliant to gently break down the bonds between the dead skin cells, making them easier to remove with physical exfoliation. You’ll want to do this at least a few times a week.

If you’re looking for recommendations on skincare products, Lauryn likes Le Mieux Perfect Renewal Pads and the Dr. Dennis Gross peel pads. She uses them in her Korean skincare routine.

But, it’s important to consider your skin type before you decide what chemical exfoliant you’re going to use. Here are some recommendations, sorted by skin type:

Dry skin: Use a gentle exfoliant, like an AHA.

Oily skin: Use an oil-soluble exfoliant that can help unclog pores, like a BHA.

Sensitive skin: Use a gentle exfoliant, like Lauryn’s favorite renewal pads. Or check out these product recs specifically for sensitive skin.

    Physically exfoliate.

Once you’ve chemically exfoliated, loosening the bonds between the old, dead skin and the new skin, it’s time to get rid of the dead skin cells hanging around. We do this through physical exfoliation.

You can do this in a number of ways, but we recommend the Butter Brush for your body. It’s a dry brush made to be long-lasting and easy to use. With a long handle and firm, natural bristles, you’ll have the most buttery baby’s skin of your whole life. You can learn how to dry brush here.

For your face, you can use a facial brush. Scrub in a circular motion to remove the dead skin cells.

Smooth dull skin with Vitamin C.

Vitamin C has antioxidant properties, which help protect from free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that your body secretes in response to environmental stressors such as pollution and UV rays. They cause cell damage, which can lead to uneven skin tone and texture.

Additionally, Vitamin C can increase collagen synthesis. Collagen is the protein that gives your skin structure. Having firm skin due to collagen can make your skin feel even more baby-smooth.

There are plenty of serums and creams out there made with Vitamin C. Lauryn likes the Dr. Dennis Gross Vitamin C serum and Skinceuticals CE Ferulic. You can find other product recommendations from Lauryn and The Skinny Confidential team here.

    Moisturize daily.

This step is very important if you want baby soft skin. Keeping the skin hydrated will help the skin feel supple and soft.

After you’ve used your serums, apply moisturizer or moisturizing lotion to lock in the moisture. We recommend doing this on slightly damp skin (especially for your body) as the added moisture will only boost your skin’s hydration levels.

Get the f*ck out of the sun.

If you’ve been hanging with us on the blog for a while and you haven’t realized how crucial this step is yet, well then… let’s discuss it again.

The sun causes all sorts of damage to the skin, leading to dark spots, lines and wrinkles, and potential skin cancer.

Every day, you should be wearing an SPF to prevent rough skin due to UV exposure. We like Caffeinated Sunscreen. It gives you the perfect glowy skin, tightens and lifts, while keeping you safe from the sun.

If you’re looking for more tips on how to limit sun exposure, check out Lauryn’s book, Get the F*ck Out of the Sun. Lauryn interviewed skincare experts and compiled her tips and theirs in this incredible book. If you’re more of an audio gal, there’s also a GTFOOTS podcast.

    Utilize ice.

Ice is a super effective tool when it comes to getting baby soft skin. It uses cold therapy to soothe swelling and puffiness by constricting blood vessels. It also stimulates lymphatic drainage to improve circulation and skin appearance and texture.

We recommend using TSC’s ice roller. It gets cold fast and stays cold longer than others. Staci Christie, Lauryn’s favorite facialist from earlier, swears by it. Plus, you can use it with our next tip as well.

Not sure what you’re doing with the Ice Roller? Here’s how to use it.

    Incorporate face oils.

Face oils are a great way to lock in extra moisturization. Plus, depending on their formulation, they may have some added benefits, too. Take our De-Puffing Face Oil, for example. It’s packed with antioxidants that help smooth out your skin. Plus, it reduces signs of aging that can get in the way of your baby-soft skin.

    Stay hydrated.

This tip is crucial. If you’re dehydrated, your skin is dehydrated too. So maybe it’s time to upgrade your water with some added electrolytes from Beauty Salt. These electrolytes help hydrate you from within, providing your skin with the hydration it needs to stay oh-so-smooth. Not to mention the beauty benefits of colostrum and pearl powder.

    Baby-soft skin is totally achievable.
