Easy Air Fryer Roast Beef – An easy, mess-free way of cooking a small joint of beef in an air fryer, and under 1 hour for a 1.5kg beef joint
Perfect for Small Joints of Beef

Happy New Year to you all! 2026 is now with us, and I am sharing my first recipe, Easy Air Fryer Roast Beef, for the New Year, which I hope you will all enjoy as much as we did, on New Year’s Day.
I am very traditional when it comes to classics such as roast beef; however, with just the two of us for New Year, and with a smaller joint of beef to cook, this air fryer method saves on time, and energy.

I bought a lovely British Aberdeen Angus piece of beef for our New Year’s Day meal. It was 1.5kg, which is about 3lbs 3ozs, so not a large joint, but big enough for us to enjoy for three or four meals.
It was netted, but I removed the net before cooking, as it was a complete piece of meat, so no need to be netted in my opinion. It was a nice compact shape, which meant it fitted in the drawer of my Ninja Max Dual Zone Air Fryer.

I cooked it for 55 minutes in total, for medium rare, which is our preferred way to enjoy roast beef. Although, my husband does prefer it on the rare side, which was fine when sliced from the middle.
This Easy Air Fryer Roast Beef was served with air fried roast potatoes, air fried roast parsnips, Brussels sprouts, carrots, spiced red cabbage, beef jus gravy and my grandmother’s Yorkshire puddings.

I was delighted with the cuisson of the beef, which was beautifully pink in the middle, as well as being meltingly tender.
We now have over half the beef left for another roast dinner, sandwiches, salads and maybe for a pie too.

I hope you enjoy this recipe for Easy Air Fryer Roast Beef if you make it – it’s so easy and convenient, with less mess than cooking in a big roasting tin too! I’m happy to help with any questions you may have, Karen

Ingredients
- 1 x 1.5kg beef joint, I used Aberdeen Angus beef
- Olive oil, or rapeseed oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic granules
- 1/2 teaspoon English mustard powder
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Remove the beef from the fridge at least 30 minuted before cooking, to allow it to come to room temperature.
- Mix the garlic granules, mustard powder, thyme, salt and black pepper together.
- Brush the oil over the beef, and sprinkle or spoon the spices over the beef, using your hands to rub them in if necessary.
- Heat the air fryer to 200C. Then line the cooking pot, basket or drawer with a paper liner.
- Place the seasoned beef into the liner and cook for 10 minutes on 200C (air fryer setting).
- After 10 minutes, check that the beef has a nice brown crust, if not, continue to cook for a further 5 minutes.
- After searing the beef, turn the heat down to 170C and cook for a further 40 to 45 minutes for medium-rare (and a 1.5kg beef joint)
- Carefully remove the beef to a plate, and cover loosely with tinfoil. Allow to rest for 20 to 30 minutes before carving. (Save any juices for the gravy)
- Serve with traditional accompaniments such as Yorkshire Pudding, gravy, and horseradish sauce.
