Did Bilawal Bhutto claim Pak has ‘its people’ in Indian Parliament? Rijiju, others allude to doctored video – Alt News

A video of Pakistani politician Bilawal Bhutto Zardari claiming that they have their ‘people’ in the Indian Parliament juxtaposed with a clip of Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi questioning the Indian government on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha is being shared widely on social media to target Opposition leaders and suggest that they might be the ‘people’ Zardari is referring to.

In the viral video, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is heard telling the Parliament, “Who attacks in the night? We can have our propaganda heard in front of the Indian prime minister in their Parliament… We have ‘our people’ there”. The video then featured a clip from the Indian Parliament where Gogoi questioned the government on Operation Sindoor. He said, “President Trump said five or six jets were downed. Each jet is worth many crores, millions of rupees. That’s why we want to know. Mr Rajnath Singh, tell us clearly today. How many fighter planes were shot down?”

Jayanta Malla Baruah, Assam’s minister of public health engineering and housing and urban affairs, shared the video on X on July 31, 2025, asking whether Pakistani leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was referring to someone from Assam in his remarks.

Nandan Pratim Sharma Bordoloi, executive editor and anchor of News Live, which is owned by Pride East Entertainments Pvt Ltd, also shared the video and wrote, “Can someone please explain which gentleman from Pakistan managed to sneak into our Parliament?”

It is worth noting that Pride East Entertainments is registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. This company was founded in 2006 by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. About 80% of the company is jointly owned by Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife and his parents. His relatives own the rest.

Several users on X, such as Star Boy Tarun, Rishi Bagree, Hathyogi, Arpit Gupta, Kailash G Wagh as well as Sudarshan News journalist Sagar Kumar shared the video on X with captions suggesting that Zardari was likely referring to Gogoi. X handle @ocjain4, which has shared misinformation in the past, also made similar claims without sharing the video.

Two days after most of these X posts were made, India’s Union minister of parliamentary affairs and minority affairs Kiren Rijiju penned a post asking why a Pakistani politician claimed their people were sitting in the Indian parliament.

Rijiju, an MP from Arunachal Pradesh, also wrote, “Why did a Pakistani ‘Pappu’ politician say, ‘Our people are sitting in the Parliament of India’?” The term ‘Pappu’ is used for someone foolish or naive.

BJP National Spokesperson and Supreme Court lawyer Jaiveer Shergill quoted Rijiju’s post and asked if Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was referring to any specific Opposition parties in India.

Many social media users also shared Zardari’s statement to target Congress leaders.

    Fact Check

After closely examining the viral video, Alt News found that the lip movements of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari were not in sync with the words heard in the clip. We also could not spot the name of any news channel or broadcaster in the video.

We then did a reverse-image search using frames taken from the viral video. This led us to 1.5-hour video broadcast from May 7, 2025, on a YouTube channel called PTV Parliament, which broadcasts proceedings from the Pakistan Parliament. This particular session, on May 7, was called after India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ to target terror bases in Pakistan.

In the video, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari starts his speech at the 39:55-minute mark and criticises the operation by India. The part seen in the viral clip appears at the 41:14-minute mark when he says, “Who launches an attack in the dead of the night? Thieves do so. Cowards so so. If they had the courage, they would have come in the light of day and declared war. They could have confronted our soldiers, confronted our…. However, these cowards targeted unarmed children in the night. Not only do we not condemn that, but so does the whole world, respected Speaker.”

Alt News examined the proceedings carefully but found nothing related to what was said in the viral video.

Apart from this, we also noticed that Zardari’s voice and pronunciation in the longer video were different from the viral video, raising doubt that it may have been generated using artificial intelligence. We checked for media reports on Zardari’s statement and whether he said such a thing but found no news reports on this.

We then examined the video using an AI detection tool. According to this, there was an 89.4% probability that the audio used in the viral video was AI-generated.

Meanwhile, the speech of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi in the viral video is from a discussion in the Lok Sabha on July 28, 2025, on Operation Sindoor, where he urged accountability from the government and demanded they publicly declare how many fighter jets were lost in the conflict. So far, the Indian side has said they suffered losses but not put a number on how many fighter aircraft they lost to Pakistan’s attack.

In other words, the original video of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was edited and different audio, likely created using AI, was added to it to mislead viewers and give a false impression of what Zardari said. Based on this doctored video, politicians ranging from Union minister Kiren Rijiju to Assam minister Jayanta Malla Baruah attacked Opposition leaders.
