If you’ve ever shopped for boy clothes, you know the challenge: racks and racks of shirts, pants, and pajamas covered in dinosaurs, trucks, and robots. I think it’s fair to say that dressing boys can be slightly less fun than dressing girls. However, I’m happy to report that I’ve found a handful of brands that make adorable boys’ clothes that not only look great, but function well for busy littles.
In today’s post, I’m sharing the five brands I love for little boys’ play clothes, church clothes, and even pajamas.
Why is shopping for boys such a challenge?
- Limited Variety: Many mainstream brands stick to stereotypical “boy” themes, leaving little room for neutral, minimalist, or classic styles.
- Seasonal Overload: As soon as a trend—like dinosaurs or construction trucks—hits, it seems to dominate every aisle.
- Lack of Timeless Options: Most of these designs don’t translate well to dressier occasions or stand the test of time.
Good thing I have some recommendations!
Cute Baby Boy and Toddler Boy Clothes
1. Oso & Me: Play Clothes
My very favorite place to shop for Thomas and Charles is Oso & Me. Their pieces are refreshingly simple and timeless, with no over-the-top prints or themes in sight. You’ll find solid colors, subtle patterns, and thoughtful details that feel modern yet classic. I particularly appreciate that the styles aren’t preppy, but still feel playful and cute for little ones (I’m from Utah and moved to the south over a decade ago, but I still can’t get on board with the smocked onesies). These pieces are perfect for playdates and outings, and some of them are dressy enough for church or even family photos.
One of the biggest challenges with kids’ clothing is how quickly they outgrow everything. Oso & Me was explicitly designed to address this problem. Their innovative approach to children’s clothing focuses on creating pieces that adjust and grow with your child, extending the life of every item.
2. Shop Cadets: Play Clothes
Shop Cadets is actually a new-to-me brand, but it falls in the same ilk as Oso & Me with classic (not preppy) little boys’ clothes. I’m particularly excited about the shorts they make (the Boy’s Classic Cloud Shorts are on my list) since I’m always hunting for cute everyday shorts that Thomas can rough around in, but still look nice-ish for preschool. And since we’re approaching the summer pretty quickly, I’m also going to order the Cabana Swim shorts for Thomas. I love the simple, classic styles.
3. Minnow: Swim and Play Clothes
When I’m shopping for swimwear or summer items, I love looking at Minnow for the boys. The styles are similar to Oso & Me (cute color combinations and simple prints), and the materials they use are fun (lots of terry cloth). There’s nothing cozier in the summer than boys’ terry shorts and a matching polo.
4. Danrie: High-End Staples
I discovered Danrie when they offered to send a gift to Charles and Thomas. I picked out the cutest linen shorts, and the boys both wear them non-stop! For Thomas, I got the Linen Bermuda Shorts since they’re a little longer, and for Charles, I got this Fancy Fish T-Shirt & Shorts Set. The shorts are lightweight, breathable, and have a unique style compared to anything else I’ve seen.
5. Little English: Dressier Occasions
When it’s time to dress up, Little English is my go-to for more preppy and polished outfits (I am much more open to preppy styles for church and things of that nature). Their collared shirts, tailored shorts, and button-up sets are perfect for holidays, church, or special events.
While Little English can get a little pricey, I’ve noticed that the styles are truly timeless and special for things like Easter, Christmas, or family photos. I don’t mind spending a bit more for those special occasions, and everything we own has lasted us years. I’m planning to dress Charles in some of the same Little English pieces we got for Thomas once he’s bigger.
6. Joy Street Pajamas: Best Pajamas
When it comes to bedtime, Joy Street Pajamas stand out not only for their softness but also for their artistic, one-of-a-kind prints. Every design is hand-drawn by the founder, giving each piece a personal and unique touch that you won’t find in mass-produced sleepwear. The boys wear Joy Street PJs almost exclusively. The prints are precious and seasonal, and the material is the softest we’ve found. They also make coordinating sets for parents if you want to match your kids.

7. Zutano: Baby Bootie Perfection
If you have a baby, you need Zutano booties in your life. These are the holy grail of baby footwear—they actually stay on little feet! They’re perfect for keeping tiny toes warm and cozy, whether at home or on the go. Save 20% on your order with code TERILYNADAMSBLOG.

8. Robeez: Toddler Shoes That Work
For toddlers, Robeez are a must-have. Their shoes are designed for growing feet, with flexible soles that support early walkers. They come in a variety of adorable designs, making them both functional and stylish.
Final Thoughts
I sometimes find cute boy clothes at J.Crew Factory or Gap, but they’re not the first places I check. While both stores occasionally have fun patterns or trendy pieces, I’ve found that Gap’s quality isn’t as durable as I’d like, especially for active kids. Instead, I’d rather invest in higher-quality options, like a shirt from Oso & Me, which not only looks timeless but is built to last. Those pieces can be worn and loved by Thomas, then handed down to Charles without losing their shape, softness, or charm. It’s worth spending a little more for clothing that holds up beautifully over time.
