Cottage Cheese Ranch Dip – Ginger with Spice

This cottage cheese ranch dip is so flavorful with ranch and everything spice flavors, so it doesn’t even feel too healthy! Use it as a dip for your favorite vegetables, crackers or even potato chips. At least the dip will be guilt-free!

I know cottage cheese everything is very 2025, however – I don’t care because cottage cheese is an amazing product. It has an incredible protein to calorie ratio, so it’s a great way to feel full without weighing you down.

    Why you’ll love this recipe

Ranch-flavored dips are hugely popular year-round, but they really shine during snack-heavy seasons like summer (veggie platters!) and party season (game nights, movie nights, casual hosting).

This version is inspired by classic ranch dip, but made lighter and more modern by swapping sour cream and mayo for cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. In addition, I couldn’t resist opting for Everything Spice too. It’s truly an umami bomb.

It pairs especially well with crunchy vegetables, warm bread, and salty snacks like potato chips. It’s also a great companion to grilled foods, wraps, or as a spread in sandwiches.

If you like quick blended dips like hummus or yogurt-based sauces like Tzatziki, this fits right in.

    Ingredients

Each ingredient has a purpose here – simple, but effective:

    • Cottage cheese: This is the base of the dip. Once blended, it becomes smoother and creamier while adding protein and body without heaviness.

    • Greek yogurt: Adds tang and balances the cottage cheese, making the dip taste more like traditional ranch.

    • Everything spice: Brings depth and savory notes – garlic, onion, sesame, and salt all in one.

    • Dried dill, parsley, and basil: These herbs create that unmistakable ranch flavor. Dill is especially important for authenticity.

    • Mustard powder (optional): Just a pinch sharpens the flavor and adds a subtle background warmth.

    • Salt: Enhances everything – go easy at first, especially if your spice blend already contains salt

    Instructions

This dip couldn’t be simpler, but a few small tips make it even better.

Add all ingredients to a blender or use an immersion blender in a tall container. Blend until completely smooth, scraping down the sides as needed. Depending on your cottage cheese and blender, this can take anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple of minutes.

Taste and adjust seasoning. You might want a pinch more salt, herbs, or spice depending on what you’re serving it with.

For best flavor, let the dip rest in the fridge for at least 15-30 minutes before serving. This gives the herbs time to hydrate and bloom.

    Substitutions

This recipe is flexible and forgiving:

    • Greek yogurt: Can be swapped for sour cream or skyr for a slightly tangier dip.

    • Everything spice: If you don’t have it, use garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of sesame seeds. Sesame seeds can also be omitted for a more traditional feel.

    • Dried herbs: Fresh herbs work too – just use more, as fresh herbs are milder.

    • Mustard powder: Can be skipped entirely or replaced with a tiny dash of Dijon.

    Variations

You can easily customize this dip depending on who/what you’re serving:

    • Spicy ranch dip: Add chili flakes, cayenne, and/or a splash of hot sauce.

    • Garlic-forward: Add a small clove of fresh garlic or extra garlic powder.

    • Kid-friendly: Skip the mustard powder and keep the seasoning mild. You may also want to increase the yogurt to make it smoother.

    • Extra deluxe: Swirl in a little olive oil or top with chopped fresh herbs before serving. I mean, yum.

    • Thinner dressing-style version: Blend with a splash of milk or water and drizzle over salads or grain bowls.

    • Other spice mixes: You can omit the flavors in this cottage cheese dip and use any of my other spice mixes, for example fajita seasoning, Cajun, or Italian seasoning

    Equipment

A blender or immersion blender is essential to get the cottage cheese completely smooth. A high-speed blender works fastest, but a stick blender does the job just fine – just blend a little longer.

If your blender struggles with thicker mixtures, add a tablespoon or two of water or more yogurt to help it along. No fancy equipment required, which makes this a great everyday recipe.

    Storage

Store the dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. The flavor actually improves after a few hours, making it very make-ahead friendly.

Give it a quick stir before serving, as it may thicken slightly in the fridge. This dip isn’t suitable for freezing, as the texture can become grainier once thawed.

    Expert tips

    1. Blend longer than you think and it will get smoother. You can see from my photos that I have slightly underblended this time. It depends on what you texture you prefer!
    2. Let it rest before serving for the best flavor.
    3. Taste after blending; cottage cheese brands vary a lot in saltiness.
    4. If serving the cottage cheese ranch dip with salty chips, keep the dip slightly under-salted.

    Recipe FAQs

Can you taste the cottage cheese?

No – once blended, it’s completely smooth and neutral.

Yes. It’s higher in protein and lower in fat than a traditional ranch dip, but still creamy and satisfying.

Can I use low-fat cottage cheese?

Yes, but full-fat gives the best texture and flavor. It will get slightly thinner.

Can this be used as a dressing?

Absolutely! I would thin it out with a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and a tablespoon or two of water or milk. Thin it out enough so it is drizzable.

    Enjoy!
