Bake These Amazing Germantown Cookies: A Simple Recipe – Beauty Cooks Kisses

Have you ever heard of Germantown cookies? These delightful treats, often featuring the rich crunch of pecans, are a bit of a hidden gem. Today, I’m sharing my version of Germantown cookies, where equally delicious walnuts take a center stage. Get ready for a chewy, coconut infused, and utterly satisfying cookie experience that might just become your new favorite!

What Makes These Germantown Cookies So Special?

These aren’t your average, run-of-the-mill cookies. Germantown cookies boast a wonderfully chewy texture with a soft and slightly pillowy interior. They don’t have a crisp snap; instead, they offer a satisfyingly tender bite. What truly sets them apart is the perfect harmony of flavors and textures. You’ll find just the right proportions of crunchy nuts (in my case, delicious walnuts!), flakes of chewy coconut, and hearty oatmeal, ensuring that no single ingredient overpowers the others. The result is a delightful balance in every bite.

And if you’re someone who appreciates a simple cookie that isn’t overwhelmingly sweet, you’re in for a treat! These luscious oatmeal coconut cookies achieve that perfect level of sweetness, making them utterly irresistible without being cloying. There’s also a subtle hint of vanilla that beautifully rounds out all the other flavors.

A crucial step in this recipe is flattening the dough balls before baking. Trust me on this! While they will naturally grow and spread slightly in the oven, flattening them helps them bake evenly and achieve that signature chewy texture throughout. Don’t skip this step for the best results!

    How to Make Germantown Cookies

You’ll be surprised at how easy it is to make these unique homemade cookies. Let’s get started!

    Ingredients

½ cups brown sugar (light or dark), firmly packed
    ½ cups sugar
½ cups (1 stick) of butter, softened
    1 large egg
½ cups rolled oats (quick or old-fashioned)
½ cups of grated coconut flakes
½ cups chopped walnuts or pecans
    ½ teaspoons baking powder, leveled
    ½ teaspoons baking soda, leveled
    1/8 teaspoon of salt
    2 cups of sifted flour
    ½ teaspoons of vanilla

    Instructions

    1. Preheat your oven to 350-degrees.
    2. Mix the following ingredients together in a large mixing bowl and cream thoroughly the sugars, butter and the egg until fluffy.
    3. In another mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
    4. Add the oatmeal, coconut and nuts last to the same bowl next.
    5. Scoop small balls (the size of a walnut) to form into balls. I use a small size cookie or melon scoop with a trigger release for this. Occasionally, I have a cup of water handy to dip the used scoop in for easier release when the dough gets a bit sticky.
    6. Transfer the dough balls to well-greased cookie sheets.
    7. Make sure to flatten them with a fork. (You can also dip your fork into the water if it sticks as well).
Bake the cookies at 350 degrees till lightly brown. This takes about 12 minutes. However, this time can vary depending on your oven is regulated and the size of the cookies you form.
    8. ENJOY!
