Throughout the 12 episodes on the Can This Love Be Translated? the series traces the emotional and romantic journey Cha Mu-hee played by Go Youn-jung and Joo Ho-jin played by Kim Seon-ho as they confront past wounds, identity, and love across borders. The story begins in Japan, where Mu-hee searches for her ex-boyfriend who abandoned her and started a family.

At a small restaurant run by his new partner, she meets Ho-jin, who helps translate her words to the woman. Learning that her ex is supporting his pregnant girlfriend, Mu-hee chooses grace over bitterness and congratulates her.

Later, the two then wonder around the town sharing personal stories before parting ways. Back in Korea, Mu-hee lands her first lead role in a horror film but an accident while doing a stunt puts her in a year-long coma.

When she wakes, she has become a star with the film becoming a massive hit. The sudden fame overwhelms her and she begins hallucinating her character Do Re-mi, who mocks and destabilizes her.

Ho-jin visits her and their connection slowly rekindles but when she directly asks if he has feelings for her, his refusal leaves her hurt and disheartened. As Mu-hee’s anxiety worsens, Do Re-mi grows more dominant, reflecting the fears and self-blame rooted in her traumatic childhood.

Ho-jin and Mu-hee’s paths cross again when Mu-hee is cast in a romantic reality show with a Japanese co-actor filmed around the globe, with Ho-jin hired as her translator. Tension between them keep arising due to misunderstandings involving Ho-jin’s feelings towards his brother’s fiancée.

Things become complicated even more when, Mu-hee kisses Ho-jin impulsively, but her insecurities and jealousy continue to interfere. As the filming continues, Mu-hee struggles between her true self and Do Re-mi’s control, confusing both Ho-jin and her co-star Hiro. This leads Hiro to confess to her on the final day of filming.

However, Mu-hee comes to understand that her feelings for Ho-jin are genuine and unchangeable, even as fear and a sense of unworthiness make it hard for her to accept being loved. After seeing a video of him breaking down emotionally, she confronts him and confesses her love. Ho-jin admits his fears about the future but embraces her, choosing to trust their bond.

A family secret coming to light briefly separates them, and Mu-hee leaves to confront the situation and heal properly. When Mu-hee returns, she apologizes for leaving Ho-jin, telling him how deeply she has missed him. Ho-jin answers with a kiss, reuniting them and closing the series Can This Love Be Translated?.
