I’ve been blogging for about 16 years, and one of the questions I get most is about my hair. I’m always so flattered by the question/compliment, and a lot of credit goes to good genetics and a great stylist! But there is also a lot to be said for a good at-home routine with high-quality products.

Three years ago, I finally wrote a blog post about my hair care routine, but it changes from time to time, so I wanted to re-share this post today with my current routine.

My Hair Care Routine + Favorite Products

While this isn’t part of my hair-washing routine, I wanted to note that I took Nutrofol’s Hair Growth Nutraceutical, which helped a ton with postpartum hair loss (here are some other ways to make your hair grow faster). While it’s been almost two years since having Charles, I think it’s important to keep your hair supplement routine consistent for as long as possible when you’re postpartum. I also used Divi Scalp Serum for a while on my hair after it was towel-dried. (And this hair towel is a must to decrease drying time.) I apply about 3/4 of a dropper right at the roots, especially. And I make sure to focus near the front, where I have some postpartum hair loss.

    1. Shampoo and Conditioner

I start by cleansing my hair with the Colleen Rothschild Shampoo & Conditioner. They’re WONDERFUL. The shampoo has a great lather and is infused with scalp-rebalancing probiotics, strengthening peptides, and refreshing botanicals like eucalyptus and rosemary that gently remove build-up. The conditioner is super hydrating and smooths my hair. It’s great for all hair styles and textures, and it smells amazing (I’m sensitive to scents, so if I like it, it’s good).

You can use code TERILYN20 for 20% iff at Colleen Rothschild.

    2. Scalp Care

A couple times a week, I use the Christophe Robin Sea Salt Scrub Shampoo in place of the Colleen Rothschild shampoo to deeply cleanse and exfoliate my scalp. It gets every last bit of build-up out of my hair but leaves it a little dry if I don’t follow with a hair mask (more on that below). For a budget-friendly alternative, Bondi Boost’s Hair Thickening Therapy Shampoo is a great option.

    3. Hair Mask

Once a week (usually the same day I use the Goop shampoo), I apply the Colleen Rothschild Quench & Shine Restorative Mask to add moisture and repair my hair. While in the shower, I comb through my hair with a wide-tooth comb to ensure even distribution and detangle gently. I treat this as my conditioner step when I use it.

    4. Hair Towel

I’ve tried a lot of hair towels over the years, but the Crown Affair hair towel is the only one I actually use consistently. It’s lightweight, super gentle on my hair, and somehow manages to cut down dry time without causing frizz or breakage. It feels luxe but practical – one of those small swaps that genuinely makes my hair look better with zero extra effort. You can grab it directly from their website or from Sephora.

    5. Leave-In Conditioner

My hair has been really dry, so I’ve been using a leave-in conditioner for extra hydration. My current favorite is the In Common Magic Myst Universal Hair Elixir. I spray this on damp, towel-dried hair and then follow with volumizing foam.

    5. Styling Products

    Volume

To add volume, I apply the Chris McMillan Blow Dry Spray all over my hair and roots to help speed up dry time, and then the Roz Root Lift Spray to give my hair a little extra lift.

    Heat Protection

Before I blow-dry, I use a small amount of Colleen Rothschild Protect & Perfect Styling Cream. This helps nourish and protect my hair from heat and humidity while also taming flyaways.

    Thickening Spay

For added thickness, I use the Roz Thickening Spray, which also provides a beautiful shine.

    Shine

To finish, I apply Roz’s Milk Hair Serum to the ends of my hair. Since it can get greasy if I use too much, I make sure to use a VERY small amount.

I detail 11 ways to help you get more volume in your hair at this post!

    6. Blow Dry and Style

After using the Dyson hair dryer for years, I tried the T3 Featherweight Style Max and was SHOCKED to realize how much I liked the T3 better. It’s lighter, just as fast, and I feel like it gives me more control. It’s also much more affordable.

If I’m leaving my hair straight, I don’t use a flat iron. (I don’t even own one.) My hair dries straight with a blow dryer, so that’s all I use, along with this round brush. If I’m curling my hair, I use the T3 Curling Iron or the T3 Aire 360 (even better than my Dyson Airwrap), depending on what type of look I want. Other times I’ll use my T3 AireBrush for an easy at-home blowout with volume (a little quicker than using the Dyson).

I shared a step-by-step tutorial of how I curl my hair with the T3 curling iron here and how I use my Airwrap here.

To hold my hair up while I blow dry or curl each layer, I use these Alligator Clips.

    6. Texture and Shine

After drying and styling, I use the Chris McMillan Dry Texture Spray. I flip my head over and spray the roots, then lightly mist the ends for added texture and volume. Then, I apply 14th Night Hair Oil on my ends one more time for extra shine and to get rid of any frizz.

    7. Brush Through

After my hair is dry, I use a Mason Pearson brush to reduce frizz and distribute natural oils throughout my hair (check out my favorite hair oils here). For a more affordable option, the Bondi Boost Hair Brush is a great alternative.

This is when I’ll typically add in Crown Affair Dry Shampoo for a longer-lasting look and finish (my top dry shampoo picks are in this post).
