Coach Chot Reyes hailed the resilience of TNT in surviving Magnolia, 80-79, in their knockout quarterfinal match that kept the Tropang 5G’s Grand Slam bid in the PBA Philippine Cup.
Kelly Williams’ two free throws with 2.7 seconds left saved TNT from the jaws of defeat and secured a semifinals berth despite needing to beat Magnolia twice entering the playoffs.
TNT was also dealing with lack of manpower with Rey Nambatac left out of the playoff roster, Brian Heruela sustaining an injury in Wednesday’s first quarters affair and even Calvin Oftana playing through an ankle sprain.

TNT survived Magnolia yet again as Kelly Williams’ two freethrows with two seconds left led to an 80-79 victory for a trip to the semifinals of the PBA Philippine Cup on Saturday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Williams calmly drained both charities after being fouled by Rafi Reavis while going for a putback before the Tropang 5G forced the Hotshots to a turnover on the next possession to complete a dramatic triumph despite needing to win twice entering the quarterfinals.

And the quest to complete a sweep of all three conferences is “not really in our minds,” adding he already considers the 49th season as a successful one, whether the historic bid is achieved or not.
“The guys have done so much already this season,” Reyes said on the heels of the thrilling 89-88 triumph at Philsports Arena in Pasig City. “If the Grand Slam is not for us, it’s not for us. But no one’s gonna take away what we have already achieved this year, this season.”

MANILA, Philippines — Magnolia forward William Navarro wasn’t surprised at all by the physicality of TNT in their first game of the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals.
Navarro was inadvertently hit in the head by Calvin Oftana late in the third quarter, which merited a flagrant foul penalty one.
The former NorthPort standout, though, didn’t mind. In fact, he even joked about it with Oftana despite the Hotshots absorbing an 89-88 loss to the Tropang Giga.
