The complete list of nominees for the 98th Academy Awards, the most prestigious award in Hollywood, have been announced today (from Oscars.org). The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed the nominees via live broadcast. The nominations from 2025 are, as expected, an exciting and confident collection of most of the best movies of the year. What a vibrant set of nominees! Ryan Coogler’s Sinners set a new record with a grand total of 16 nominations this year, topping La La Land and Titanic (which had 14). It looks like The Academy also fell hard for Sentimental Value, giving it a grand total of 9 nominations including Best Director. And the wonderful Train Dreams also ended up with plenty, but sadly they cut out The Testament of Ann Lee entirely with nothing. The Academy chose a total of ten Best Picture nominees from 2025, including: Bugonia, F1, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, Sinners, Train Dreams, and of course One Battle After Another (also my #1 of the year). Without further ado, view the list of all 2025 nominees below.

Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees. Wow! I couldn’t be happier for Sinners, Sentimental Value, One Battle After Another, Sirat, and everything else with all the noms. I’m most sad about The Testament of Ann Lee not even getting the much deserved nomination for Amanda Seyfried (who absolutely deserves that spot instead of Kate Hudson – sorry but it’s true). I’m delighted by the animation nominees including Little Amélie and Arco – two little films from France that are worthy of this acclaim. I am also ecstatic to see DP Autumn Durald Arkapaw listed for Sinners! It’s rare a woman is ever nominated for Best Cinematography and I wouldn’t be surprised if she takes home the Oscar in a few months. Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein also ended up getting a ton of nominations meaning everyone else loved it as much as I did as well, which is a relief. As for the acting side of things, it’s a surprise but also kind of exciting to see Ethan Hawke, Michael B. Jordan, and Wagner Moura nominated; along with Benicio Del Toro, Jacob Elordi, Delroy Lindo, Sean Penn, and Stellan Skarsgård. Overall, in my humble opinion, there’s not too much to complain about with these picks from 2025. I am sure there will be plenty to argue about anyway, as is the norm each year, but I believe this year’s picks are excellent from top to bottom. What do you think of these Oscar noms for 2025?
