4 Key Democrat Deceptions About the Epstein Files and Trump

House Democrats are pushing an “anti-Trump hoax” that contradicts information in both testimony and from Justice Department documents about convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to details from a memo released by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

“The Democrats have uncovered nothing new, have released no document not provided at the request of Republicans, and have only succeeded in reinforcing what the American people already knew: President Trump knew Jeffrey Epstein decades ago, President Trump ended the relationship with Epstein, and President Trump did not participate [in] or know about the nature of Epstein’s evil,” the oversight committee’s majority staff wrote in a memo issued Sunday and shared with The Daily Signal.

The memo contends Democrats misled about matters going well beyond the mischaracterization of three pages released last week. The memo references testimony from former Attorney General Bill Barr, testimony from former federal prosecutor and Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta, as well as other selectively released documents that fell apart in the context of broader transparency.

The House oversight committee released about 65,000 pages of Epstein documents to the public that it obtained from the Justice Department.

    1. Barr: ‘Low-Hanging Fruit’ For Biden DOJ

During the deposition with Barr, Rep. Jasmine Crockett asked: “You have no direct knowledge of any of the now young women or women that claimed that they had encounters with the president through Epstein, correct?

“I never was told by the Southern District that they had evidence to support any claim like that,” Barr replied, referring to the U.S. attorney’s office in the Southern District of New York.

A committee staffer later asked, “In your experience, you have no doubt, if SDNY prosecutors saw evidence of a crime, they would’ve followed that evidence, and if it led to an indictment, they would’ve indicted, and if it led to a conviction, they would’ve followed the facts where they led. Is that fair?”

Barr answered yes. He added:  “Yes, for that group.”

“I also feel, you know, that, you know, they would’ve done the same for Clinton, I believe,” Barr said. He added that this would have likely been “low-hanging fruit” for the Biden administration Justice Department if there was evidence.

However, Oversight Ranking Member Robert Garcia, D-Calif., said in a statement, “during his deposition with the committee, Attorney General Barr could not clear President Trump of wrongdoing.”

Further, a spokesperson for the House Oversight Democrats issued a public statement in September that Barr said he only has “limited knowledge” of the investigation of Epstein. “He could not exonerate President Trump of wrongdoing.”

A spokesperson for the House Oversight Committee Democrats did not respond to inquiries for this story.

    2. Acosta: ‘Pretty Spectacular it Hasn’t Leaked’

On Sept. 19, the committee interviewed Acosta, former U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida and Trump’s first Labor secretary. Acosta had to step down as Labor secretary over scrutiny of his office’s 2007 non-prosecution agreement with Epstein.

Garcia asked Acosta, “The entire time you were U.S. attorney, you never once spoke to Donald Trump?”

Acosta replied, “I did not speak with President Trump, with Donald Trump, before I was considered for secretary of Labor.”

Garcia followed, “You never had a phone conversation, also not just a meeting … any kind of conversation with Donald Trump before?”

Acosta said, “I did not have an in-person conversation. I did not have a phone conversation.”

Later, Rep. Melanie Stansbury, D-N.M., asked, “Did the FBI interview Donald Trump or speak to him with regards to this case?”

Acosta replied that prosecutors were free to pursue that lead.

“I have no knowledge that any person spoke to Donald Trump with respect to Epstein,” Acosta told the committee. “I have no knowledge of Donald Trump’s name appearing in any Epstein document. I have no knowledge of Donald Trump being associated with the Epstein investigation in any way.”

He added, “I think if there was, I think it’s pretty spectacular it hasn’t leaked by now.”

    3. Epstein Estate Documents

On Sept. 8, committee Democrats leaked two pages of documents from the Epstein birthday book out of approximately 360 pages of documents received from the Epstein estate.

“Notably, Democrats did not release former President Bill Clinton’s alleged entry in the birthday book,” the Republican staff memo says.

On Sept. 26, committee Democrats leaked four pages of documents out of about 7,700 documents received from the Epstein estate.

“In contrast, the Majority has made all documents public,” the memo says.

The memo notes that Democrats responded with hostility to the committee releasing another 23,000 pages from the Epstein files last week.

“Following this release, Democrats, whose mantra for months has been to ‘release the files,’ told The New York Times that this transparency was intended to ‘disorient’ and ‘distract,’” the memo says.

    4. ‘Redaction to Slander Trump’

Last week, Oversight Committee Democrats leaked three emails out of approximately 23,000 pages of documents received from the Epstein estate, and made new redactions.

Democrats touted an email from Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell that said, “That dog that hasn’t barked is Trump … [Redacted Victim] spent hours at my house with him.”

Democrats redacted a reference to Virginia Giuffre in one of the Epstein emails. Giuffre, who has since died, stated that she never witnessed wrongdoing from Trump.

“Democrats made this redaction to slander President Trump,” the memo says.

After that, Democrats said in media interviews they didn’t make redactions.

Stansbury told CNN, “No, it came to us redacted […] that is the claim of the White House.”

Separately, Crockett told CNN, “I don’t know why they would necessarily redact someone’s name who is deceased at this point.”

A CNN anchor corrected Crockett, noting that Democrats redacted it.
