    1. Xi unveils roadmap for deepening cooperation with LAC countries

    Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday announced the launch of five programs to advance shared development and revitalization with Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries.

    The five programs, ranging from solidarity, development and civilization to peace and people-to-people connectivity, were announced by Xi when delivering a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC (the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum in Beijing.

    2. China, U.S. announce measures to reduce majority of tariffs

    China and the U.S. have agreed to remove the majority of tariffs imposed since April 2 to ease trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies on Monday.

    The decision followed a two-day China-U.S. high-level meeting on economic and trade affairs held in Geneva, Switzerland.

    Both China and the U.S. pledged to remove 91 percentage points of the tariffs imposed in April and suspend 24 percentage points over the next 90 days, according to the statement.

    3. China announces visa-free entry for five Latin America countries

    Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Thursday that China will grant visa-free entry to citizens from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay as part of its effort to facilitate cross-border travel and strengthen ties with the countries.

    Lin said that starting June 1, 2025, until May 31, 2026, holders of ordinary passports from the five countries can enter China without a visa for up to 30 days for purposes such as business, tourism, visiting family and friends, cultural exchanges, or transit.

    4. Over 20 artists threatened by Taiwan authorities for pro-reunification expressions

    Over 20 artists from Taiwan have been specifically threatened by Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) due to their pro-reunification expressions, with actress Ouyang Nana becoming the top target.

    Artists who repost pro-reunification messages or opposing “Taiwan independence” content during certain occasions are considered by Taiwan authorities as engaging in “collaborative behavior” with the Chinese mainland.

    Taiwan’s so-called “Mainland Affairs Council (MAC)”, along with cultural authorities, would initiate administrative investigations, Chiu Chui-cheng, head of the “Mainland Affairs Council,” said on Wednesday.

    5. Licenses of surgeon, trainee revoked over misconducts

    Chinese health authorities have revoked the medical licenses of a surgeon and a trainee doctor following confirmed violations of professional ethics, personal conduct, and academic integrity, according to the National Health Commission on Thursday.

    Xiao Fei, a former thoracic surgeon at China-Japan Friendship Hospital, was expelled from the Communist Party of China, dismissed from his position, and banned from medical practice for at least five years.

    Dong Xiying, a medical trainee accused of Xiao’s extramarital partner, was found guilty of academic fraud, with her academic degrees and medical qualifications revoked.

    6. China’s Zheng Qinwen hails first-ever win over Aryna Sabalenka

    China’s tennis ace Zheng Qinwen defeated top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Italian Open with 6-4, 6-3 in Rome on Thursday. This victory marks Zheng’s first win over Sabalenka in their seven encounters.

    7. 10th China (Beijing) Military Intelligent Technology Expo kicks off

    The 10th China (Beijing) Military Intelligent Technology Expo kicked off at the China National Convention Center in Beijing on Thursday.

    The expo attracted more than 500 firms focusing on tech products including military communication, simulation training, emergency rescue, military vehicles, air traffic control systems and Beidou navigation.

    8. China sends space computing satellite constellation into space

    A Long March-2D carrier rocket carrying a space computing satellite constellation blasted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on Wednesday.

    The newly launched 12 computing satellites are the first batch of the “Three-Body Computing Constellation”. This was the 576th flight mission of the Long March carrier rocket series.

    9. China launches world’s first fleet of driverless mining trucks

    China on Thursday deployed the world’s largest fleet of driverless electric mining trucks without driver’s cabins in Inner Mongolia. The fleet consists of 100 vehicles equipped with autonomous driving technology.

    These vehicles are equipped with a 564 Kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery pack. When fully charged, they can carry 90 metric tons of goods and travel about 60 kilometers.

    10. April exports soar to new high at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory

    Tesla Gigafactory exported nearly 30,000 vehicles in April, including Model 3 and Model Y cars, marking a new monthly record for the past 12 months, the company reported Wednesday.
